Spanish-Portuguese synagogue founded in
1740. Located on Independence Mall and
known as the “Synagogue of the American
Revolution,” it is the oldest formal
congregation in Philadelphia and the
oldest continuously operating synagogue
in the United States.

which dates to the Civil War, and 55th
and Market streets.
