Offers courses for adults in the community who enjoy learning with instructors
who are experts in their fields. Subjects include history: literature; theology, eth-
ics, Torah and ancient texts Israel and the Middle East; Jewish music, art and
film and more. Also offers Hebrew and Yiddish language classes for all levels.

Classes are located in Melrose Park and Center City. Distinguished Scholar
Lectures are open to the community (including the Shusterman and Stern
community lectures), continuing legal education, as well as trips, films and
programs. Monthly “Lunch and Learns” round out the offerings.

Provides personalized Jewish education and Bar/ Bat Mitzvah preparation for
students of all Jewish backgrounds and affiliations. Hebrew Helpers connects
families and communities with Bar/ Bat Mitzvah Mentors and Officiants, who
tailor Jewish learning to each individual family’s needs. In addition to Bar/ Bat
Mitzvah preparation, we teach Hebrew language and general Jewish studies to
children and adults. Hebrew Helpers works with each family to plan the details
of the Bar/ Bat Mitzvah service, including creating the structure, choosing the
officiant, hiring musicians, arranging for personalized prayer books and the use
of a Torah.

Offers kindergarten through ninth grade students a two-and-a-half-hour
Jewish education program on Sundays within a secular, humanistic framework.

Monthly free Sunday Fundays program for pre-schoolers. Tenth through 12th
graders may continue their learning through employment as classroom and
community assistants. Serving families who identify with Jewish values and cul-
ture, curriculum includes Jewish holidays, ethics, history, music, dance,
literature, social action/justice and critical thinking. Offers a personalized

Teaches about contemporary food and environmental issues through train-
ings and skill-based Jewish agricultural education. The Shtetl Skills Workshop
Series revives the Jewish traditions of homesteading by teaching adults prac-
tical skills to live more sustainability rooted in the cycles and rhythms of the
Hebrew calendar. JFS organize volunteer opportunities on urban farms and
gardens around the city, and it hosts environmentally themed Shabbat and
holiday programming.

jkidphilly connects families with infants and young children up to age
12 to the people, happenings, resources and voices of our Jewish com-
munity through programs, and relationship-building activities. The
website includes a community calendar of events and programs, holiday
resources and a searchable directory for schools and early-childhood

PJ Library and PJ Our Way supports families on their Jewish journey
by sending Jewish-content books and music on a monthly basis to
children ages 6 months to 11 years living in the Greater Philadelphia
area. The program is funded by Harold Grinspoon Foundation, Jewish
Learning Venture, Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia and
private donors.

One Book, One Jewish Community (OBOJC) — Connecting people
one book at a time. Community-wide Jewish literacy program. Each
year, JLV develops resource materials about the selected book, and part-
ners with synagogues and agencies that adopt OBOJC as a vehicle for
discussing, and studying and celebrating the book, as well as the values
and issues raised in it.
