A reader received gift baskets from
colleagues and friends to celebrate
a milestone, but many of the items
included are not kosher. She wonders
how she should respond if people ask
how she liked the gifts. Miriam notes that the gift receiver could head
off inquiries by sending thank-you notes in advance — then giving the
non-kosher food to friends or neighbors. From dating to parenting,
Miriam welcomes all questions. Email yours to news@jewishexponent.

com and put “Advice Well Question” in the subject line.

Philacatessen BRIGADIEROS
Brigadieros originated in Brazil in the 1900s and, even today, they
are a simple, tasty treat. There are only a few ingredients and an
oven isn’t needed. Food columnist Keri White says the candy is a
cross between a truffle, a caramel and fudge — and who’s going
to argue with that? Read Philacatessen, her online blog, for the
recipe. And check Philacatessen regularly for food content not
normally found in the printed edition, such as other recipes,
restaurant reviews and food news from around the Delaware
Valley. jewishexponent.com/2021/05/31/brigadieros/
