Israel Bombed AP Offi ce Because Hamas Was
Developing Anti-Iron Dome Tech in Same Building
ISRAEL’S U.S. AMBASSADOR told Th e Associated Press that
the Israeli army destroyed the building housing its Gaza bureau
because Hamas was developing technology designed to jam
Israel’s Iron Dome anti-missile system, JTA reported.

Hamas’ research and development and intelligence arms were
in the building, said Gilad Erdan, who is also the United Nations
ambassador. “Th e unit was developing an electronic jamming system to be
used against the Iron Dome defense system,” Erdan said, according
to a release by the Israeli Embassy in Washington, D.C.

Israel authorities gave residents and workers an hour to
evacuate before it bombed the 12-story building on May 15.

Erdan told AP offi cials that Israel did not believe the news
organization knew Hamas was headquartered in the building.

Hamas launched about 4,500 rockets at Israel between May
10-21. About 1,500 headed for built-up areas, and Iron Dome
intercepted about 90%.

Egg Prices to Rise
Th e Ministry of Agriculture announced that egg prices in Israel
will increase 6.5% to keep up with rising costs, including a 17%
hike in the price of feed, Globes reported.

Th e increase is the fi rst in seven years and is part of a wave of
price hikes to products under government supervision.

A dozen extra-large eggs will now cost $4.04, a dozen large eggs
will cost $3.71 and a dozen medium-sized eggs will cost $3.44.

Israel to Allow Individual Tourists Starting July 1
Tourism Minister Orit Farkash-Hacohen announced on June
10 that vaccinated individual tourists will be allowed in Israel
starting on July 1, Th e Jerusalem Post reported.

“Th e time has come for Israel to open up to tourism and to
take advantage of its status as a vaccinated country for the benefi t
of its economy,” Farkash-Hacohen tweeted.

A spokesperson said there won’t be limits on the visitors
allowed in, but travelers will have to present their vaccination
certifi cate before boarding the plane, along with the results of
their polymerase chain reaction, or PCR, test.

Foreign nationals haven’t been allowed into Israel for more
than a year, with a few exceptions.

Some selected tourist groups were allowed into Israel starting
in May.

Israel Strengthens West African Bonds Via Chess
Israeli and several West African chess teams competed on June
16 as part of the Chess4Solidarity initiative, Th e Jerusalem Post
reported. Th e initiative has hosted multiple chess events — including 21 in
the past year — to connect people from Israel and other countries
through chess. Th e event was arranged in the memory of Shlomo
Hillel, who was Israel’s fi rst ambassador to Guinea and Ivory Coast
in the late 1950s and early 1960s. He died four months ago.

More than 180 people from the West African countries
competed, including from Niger and Algeria, which do not have
diplomatic ties with Israel. Th e event was broadcast though
Facebook pages in Israel, Senegal, Cameroon and Ivory Coast.

Th e competition was won by Guy Levin, 17, from Rishon Lezion,
Israel. ●
