SHAPIRO SHERMAN
SCHWARTZ Adeline Schwartz Jasper, 97, of Jamesville,
NY passed peacefully September 20, 2021 at
The Nottingham. Adeline or Addie as she was
known, was born in the Olney section of Phil-
adelphia, PA and was married to Martin N.
Jasper for 52 years until his death in 1977.
Adeline grew up and raised her family in Phil-
adelphia and Bucks County, PA. Adeline kept
the family involved in Jewish life and cere-
mony and was an active member of Temple
Beth Or and Shir Ami in Philadelphia, and
later, Temple Concord in Syracuse, spending
time working at the Temple Concord Food
Pantry as her health allowed. She worked
most of her life in clerical and purchasing po-
sitions, until retirement as a Contract Negoti-
ator, Civil Servant for the US Navy. Adeline
will always be remembered for her love and
devotion to her family and the example she
set for them through her strong work ethic
and genuine concern for making sure the
family was always close and together. In ad-
dition to her husband, Adeline was pre-de-
ceased by her daughter Sandra Lee Jasper
Weissman, and 3 sisters: Mildred, Beatrice
and Florence. She is survived by her son Neil
(Charlotte) Jasper, 6 grandchildren: Adam
(Kelly) Weissman, Zeth Weissman, David
Jasper, Steven Jasper, Benjamin (Theresa)
Ireland, and Braydon (Jacklyn) Ireland; and 5
great granddaughters: Sophia Adele Weiss-
man, Maeve Olivia Ireland, Molly Marie Ire-
land, Sephina Jasper, and Carlin Rae Ireland.

the American Heart Association.

SHACHTER WEISS
Dr. Jaqueline Shachter Weiss (nee Nelson),
age 95, passed away August 19, 2021. Be-
loved wife of Dr. George H. Weiss; loving
mother of Sherry Shachter, Ross Shachter,
Scott Shachter (Lisa), and Steve Weiss (Ju-
lie); adoring grandmother of Sophie, Arianna,
Naomi, Simon, and Julian; and dear sister of
Philip Nelson and the late Jewell Ray. For
decades, Jackie Weiss was an acclaimed pro-
fessor of Early Elementary Education at
Temple University: teaching people how to
become teachers, with a focus on reading.
She also specialized in teaching college stu-
dents who would be facing bi-lingual Span-
ish/English classrooms. She is also the au-
thor of several renowned books on the sub-
ject of teaching children's literature. Contri-

SILVER Evelyn Shirley Silver (nee Levine) aged 97.
Beloved wife to Harry Silver (deceased 2010)
for 63 years and mother to Norman, Mitchell
(Joyce), and Leslie (Michael). Grandmother
to Max and Jade Silver, Eli and Tara Beattie.
She was born on October 8, 1923, daughter
of Harry and Anna Levine in Brooklyn, N.Y.
and passed away peacefully in her room at
Rydal Medical Center on September 5, 2021.
She lived in Abington PA until moving to Ry-
dal Park. She and Harry were lifelong mem-
bers of Old York Road Temple Beth Am syn-
agogue which was their communit y
throughout their lives. They founded the
Harry and Evelyn Silver Scholar in Residence
program at the synagogue, believing in the
importance of education and the furthering of
knowledge. She was a lifelong member of
Hadassah, acting as president of the local
Philadelphia chapter, now Einstein-Senesch.
Evelyn was well known for her generosity and
philanthropy. She traveled extensively
throughout her life, often to Asia, accompa-
nying Harry on his work trips. They travelled
together and occasionally with their children
and grandchildren as they explored the world
in their later years. In addition to being ex-
ceptionally well read, she loved crossword
and jigsaw puzzles and gardening. Her weak-
ness for chocolate and Baileys Irish Cream
was well known. In lieu of flowers, please

WEINRACH SITKOFF
Dr. Malcolm Sitkoff, aged 90, passed away
on September 18, 2021, at his home in War-
rington, PA, surrounded by his family. He
was the beloved husband of Claire (nee Onin-
berg) Sitkoff, and is survived by his children,
Sheryl (Philip) Marx, Doree (Greg Kidorf)
Sitkoff, and Nathan (Bridget) Sitkoff. His
cherished daughter Lilly (Jay) Dubin passed
away in 2000 after a battle with cancer. He
was grandfather to Melissa Marx, Deborah
(Derek) Namerow, Danny Marx, Joshua Du-
bin, Andrew Dubin, Aaron Dubin, Sarah
(Sam) Kelly, Aimee Dubin, Eliana Kidorf,
Joshua Kidorf, Noah Sitkoff, Jeremiah Sitkoff,
and Leona Sitkoff; and great-grandfather to
Ethan Dubin. Malcolm was born on April 9th,
1931, to Nathan and Lillian (nee Ansill)
Sitkoff. His mother died when he was three.
He had a twin brother Jerome (Ruth) Sitkoff
(deceased), and elder sister Elaine (Joseph)
Meyerson (deceased). Malcom grew up in
West Oak Lane, Philadelphia, near his many
aunts, uncles, and cousins, whom he loved.
He spent summers in Atlantic City with his
family and friends, with whom he had many
adventures, including meeting his wife on the
Boardwalk when they were both teenagers.
After graduating from Central High School,
Mal col m attended th e Un iversi ty of
Pennsylvania, where he played for the light-
weight football team, and went on to gradu-
ate from Jefferson Medical College. He was
chief resident at the Children’s Hospital of
Philadelphia, and then served as an Army
Captain at Fort Carson, CO, where he cared
for the children of servicemen on the base.
Following completion of his military service,
he returned to Northeast Philadelphia, where
he lived and practiced medicine (pediatrics)
from his home, and was on staff at Holy Re-
deemer and Nazareth Hospitals. Later in his
career, Malcolm also worked for the city of
Philadelphia, caring for children at the city
clinic at Cottman and Bustleton Avenues. He
loved cars, driving, and collecting antique
clocks. He was generous to a fault with his
family, friends, and patients (and sometimes
strangers). Malcolm loved telling stories
about his life, especially stories of his child-
hood antics. He liked to tease and was not
above playing the occasional practical joke.
Malcolm made connections with people eas-
ily, and was remembered by everyone he ever
met. He was an outstanding doctor, as well
as an extraordinary husband, father, grand-
father, relative and friend who will be missed
dearly by all those whose lives he touched.

SMOLOW We mourn the loss of our beloved Miriam
Smolow who passed away on Saturday,
September 4, 2021. She was the wife of Ernie
Smolow (died July 28, 2020), mother of Ron
(Nan) Smolow and Craig (Rhoda) Smolow,
grandmother of Lauren, Jessica, Andrea, Mi-
chael, Erica and Josh and great-grandmother
of 10, sister of Leonard Hoffner and Judith
Cohen. Miriam was a “gute neshuma.” Her
life was always about the other person. She
had the remarkable ability to empathize, to
feel what you were feeling. She will be re-
membered for her most beautiful, loving, and
caring smile. Miriam grew up in Philadelphia
with her brother & sister during the great de-
pression. She married Ernie when he re-
turned home from WWII. She was a success-
ful businesswoman, way ahead of her time.
Early on, Miriam worked out of the home
selling real estate and insurance. Later, she
had a very successful career working for
Almo Electronics. Miriam encouraged her
sons and her grandkids to be independent
and self-reliant and often said, “Make sure
you get a good education” and always sup-
port the Jewish community. When you vis-
ited with her, she would always end the visit
with a loving squeeze of the hand, a kiss
goodbye, and would say: “Thank you for be-

ida, passed away peacefully on August 27th
with her family by her side in Westport, CT.
Raised in New York City and Philadelphia by
her mother Sophie, Jane graduated from
Friends Central High School and Connecticut
College before becoming a high school Eng-
lish teacher in Philadelphia. She met Alan
Swotes in 1959, and they were married for
53 years before his death in 2013. Jane was
an avid tennis player, international traveler
and animal lover. After Jane and Alan moved
to the suburbs, she focused on raising her
children and supporting various charities in-
cluding Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia,
Israel Tennis Center and organizations de-
voted to the protection and fostering of anim-
als. Jane is survived by her sons Michael and
William, daughter-in-law Lisa Burge Swotes,
and three grandchildren, Jamie, Jonah and

WALLACH Bernice Barbara Wallach, née Neubauer, an
area bon-vivant and noted singer, passed
away on May 15th, 2021 in Wyndmoor, PA.
Mrs. Wallach was 99. A graduate of Hunter
College in Brooklyn, NY, Mrs. Wallach en-
joyed a 50-year career in fashion in the wo-
men’s apparel industry. She was Director of
Fashion and Sales in the Neubauer Family
Department Store. Her husband, Arnold Wal-
lach, to whom she was married for 55 years
before his passing in 2001, was a prominent
appellate lawyer in New York City. Foremost
was Mrs. Wallach’s love and closeness with
her sister, Nona “Cookie” Rawdin, who Ber-
nice guided and cared for when their mother
passed away at a young age. She also en-
joyed her time and relationship with her
nieces and nephews, to whom she was like a
second mother. Mrs. Wallach was an active
supporter and member of many Jewish or-
ganizations. In addition to her beloved and
adoring sister Cookie, Mrs. Wallach is sur-
vived by her nephews and nieces Scott
Rawdin (Alice), Janis Rawdin-Walcoff
(George, deceased), Grant Rawdin (Laura)
and Suann Shuster (Robert), 8 grand nieces
and grand nephews Yasha, Alex, Jacob,
Jesse (deceased), Sydney, Jordan, Aaron and
Rachel and 2 great-grandnieces, Penelope
and Gemma. Graveside services took place
on May 18, 2021.
WEINRACH Melvin J Weinrach passed Friday, August
20 th , at the age of 94. He is survived by his
son Jeff, his sister Charlotte, his grandchil-
dren Sara and Carrie, and 5 greatgrandchil-
dren. He’s predeceased by his wife, Libby
(married more than 70 years) and his daugh-
ter Rhona.
