Joan Beal, of Wynnewood, PA passed away
peacefully on October 20, 2017. Joan was
born in Philadelphia and graduated from
West Chester University with a degree in edu-
cation. She began her career teaching ele-
mentary school at The Stevens School in
Philadelphia. Joan was an accomplished du-
plicate bridge player, earning Life Master
ranking at a very young age.Joan was prede-
ceased by husband Jerry Beal. She is sur-
vived by her loving children Mary Ellen Bern-
stein (Louis), Paula Moritz (Lowell), grand-
children Sarah Solomon (Scott), Emily Bern-
stein, Carl Moritz, Hillary Moritz, great grand-
son Jerry Solomon and loving companion

was predeceased by her sister Elisabeth. A

served in the United States Army Reserve
and was a member of the American, Chicago

owner and operator of a clothing manufactur-

from Temple University with a BA in busi-

DAVIDOW Elaine (Davis) Davidow, of Cherry Hill (origin-
ally of Clifton, NJ), passed away on October
30, 2017, after spending a week in hospice
care. Elaine was the loving wife of Dennis
Davidow and the devoted mother of her
daughter, Dr. Toby Davidow. Elaine was pre-
ceded in death by her two sisters, including
Sylvia (Davis) Goldstein in 2008 and Ray
(Davis) Platt who passed away 6 days before
Elaine, on October 24. Although Elaine battled
Multiple Sclerosis and Dementia for 25 years,
Elaine’s continuous smile, infectious laugh,
and words of wisdom served as an inspira-
tion to many people, most notably her daugh-
ter. Often the optimist, one of her favorite
sayings was, “Tomorrow is a new day with
no mistakes in it.” She was a fighter through
her entire life, always advocating for her fam-
ily and herself. Her daughter, Toby, wishes to
memorialize Elaine in mid-January 2018. In

EISENBERG Helen Eisenberg, age 94, of Boca Raton Flor-
ida, formerly from Northeast Philadelphia,
passed away peacefully at home, surrounded
by family on Thurs, Sept 21, 2017. Helen
was born Nov. 4, 1922 in Philadelphia, and
her parents owned the Rudnick Tailor-Furrier
shop on Akron St. She graduated from the
University of Pennsylvania in 1946 and was
an elementary school teacher and substitute
in the Philadelphia School System. For 67
years Helen loved being married to Morton
Eisenberg, who preceded her in death on
Dec. 10, 2013. Both were active members of
Temple Beth Emeth on Welsh Rd. Helen is
survived by her son Gary (Nancy) Eisenberg,
daughter Debbie (Bob) Merion, five grand-
children: Marisa, Alison, Seth, Sarah, and
Mitchell, and four great-grandchildren. Helen
never missed sending a yearly birthday card
and anniversary card to at least three-dozen
family members and friends, many with a
hand-written poem. She will be missed and
remembered with loving thoughts about her
intelligence, tenacity, resilience and most im-
portantly, her devotion to her family. Ser-
vices were held at Beth Israel Memorial
Chapel in Delray Beach, Florida on Sept. 26,
2017. She was laid to rest at Eternal Light
Memorial Gardens in Boynton Beach, Florida.

GARDNER Renée Ella Gardner (née Wachs) died unex-
pectedly Friday, November 24, 2017 at Lee
Memorial Hospital as the result of an auto-
mobile accident on Thanksgiving evening.

Formerly of Manhattan, NY she had been a
resident of Bonita Springs since 2005. She
was born in Philadelphia, PA a daughter of
the late Sydney and Rose (Gertzman) Wachs.

Renée was an accomplished mystery writer
having published two mystery novels and nu-
merous magazine stories. She was a mem-
ber of the Mystery Writers of America, and
was a member of the Bonita Springs New-
comers Club, Encore of Bonita Springs,
Friends of the Library Bonita Springs, Art
League of Bonita, First Friday Group and
Spanish Wells Golf and Country Club. Renée
loved shopping and was known by her
friends for her up-to-date fashion trends.

Mrs. Gardner also enjoyed needlework’s and
volunteering at the Hope Chest in Bonita
Springs. Survivors include her sister, Doris
Finberg of Langhorne, PA; nieces, Melinda C.

Elaine Ettenger Goodstein of Bryn Mawr died
on October 31, 2017. She was 96. Elaine
Ettenger was born to William and Tillie
Ettenger in Philadelphia on April 1, 1921. She
resided in Logan and graduated from Simon
Gratz High School. She married Dr. Milton
Goodstein of Philadelphia on October 24,
1943. They lived in Havertown, where she
was active in her synagogue, Suburban Jew-
ish Community Center, was a community
leader in developing TASC, a nonprofit sup-
porting teen employment, and performed
market research for the Chilton Company.

She and Milton moved to Cincinnati, OH, in
1974 where she became active in the Crest
Hills Country Club. Following in her sister,
Gladys’s, successful business career in Phil-
adelphia, she founded Cincinnati Sellout, a
personalized home liquidation business. After
15 years in Cincinnati, she and her husband
divided their time between Ventnor, New Jer-
sey and Boynton Beach, Florida. She was
predeceased by her husband in 2006. After-
wards she spent the last ten years of her life
with her partner Fred Brenner, also a Phil-
adelphia native. They lived in Boca Raton,
Florida, and Bryn Mawr. Mrs. Goodstein is
survived by her children Lynne Goodstein

DEATH NOTICES
ISENBERG Ronald “Ronnie” Isenberg, (1933-2017),
passed away at age 84 from a 17 year
struggle with Alzheimer’s. A lawyer, mentor,
community leader, friend, brother, loving and
beloved husband, father, grandfather and
family man. Ronnie was born in Philipsburg,
Pennsylvania and attended Altoona High
School where he first started dating his wife
of 63 years, Rosamond. He went on to Penn
State University and then moved to Phil-
adelphia to attend the University of
Pennsylvania Law School. Ronnie shared his
life with his wife, Rosamond and their chil-
dren, Debbie and Steven Kass, Steven and
Lisa Isenberg and Jodi Isenberg. Ronnie was
the delighted and proud Grampy of Joshua,
Alexis and Samantha Isenberg and Jared and
Lindsay Kass. An avid golfer and traveler, he
loved boating, the Philadelphia Eagles, music,
the boardwalk, bagels, lox and cream cheese
and his family. He was lovingly known to his
family as “Rocket” and was the family’s im-
petus for establishing the Rocket Education
Community Center for Life Long Learning
(REC), a facility for people with early stage
dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. Ronnie
was a long-time member and supporter of
B’Nai B’rith, Temple Sinai, Boy Scouts of
America, Big Brother and Big Sisters Club,
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and American Bar
Associations, and served on numerous com-
munity and local, boards, associations and
groups including Masons, Shriners, Justice
Lodge and the Upper Dublin Municipal Au-
thority. Ronnie’s doors and heart were al-
ways open to young lawyers for guidance,
friends and of course family. There was a
service honoring Ronnie Tuesday, November
14, 12:00 p.m. at Beth Israel Northfield, 2501
Shore Road, Northfield, N.J. In lieu of
