Stanley Saks, age 100, August 24, 2021.

Husband of the late Miriam (nee Segal), fath-
er of Sandra Stern, Donna (Bernie) Green-
berg and Edward (Sherry) Saks, brother of
Robert (Yetta) Saks; also survived by 10
grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Stanley was a lifelong resident of Phil-
adelphia and a graduate of West Philadelphia
High School. He attended for a time at the
University of Pa. Stanley served in Europe
during WW 2 as a member of the 82nd Air-
borne Division. He was a participant in the
Battle of the Bulge and later parachuted into
Germany over the Rhine. Stanley was a
former Pa State Commander of the Jewish
War Veterans.

Norbert Shapiro, November 12, 2021. De-
voted husband of Ruth (nee Brichto). Loving
father of Judith Silk (Murray), Sharon Lipson,
and Rena Weitz (Dr. Eliot). Beloved grand-
father of Alyson, Robyn (Jonathan), Jeremy,
Jonathan, Adam (Victoria), and Ilana (Lionel).

Dear great-grandfather of Marin, Bennett,
Joshua, London, Sydney, Noah. Funeral ser-

SHERR Henry I. “Hank” Sherr, of Philadelphia, Wash-
ington DC and Wynnewood, PA gently took
his last breath at home on November 1,
2021. He was almost 101 years of age. The
consummate Daddy of Sandi Sherr (and Mi-
chael Sack). Dear brother of the late Louis
Sherr and Samuel Sherr. Adoring and adored
“Zadie” to his grandchildren Jacob (Erin)
Sack, Myra (Matthew) Sack, and Leah (Mike)
Sack as well as his great-grandchildren Kaia
Lev Goldstein and Havi Lev Goldstein. Treas-
ured uncle to his filial nephew, Sonny Sherr,

SCHWAM Ronnie (Rosalind Jane) Schwam (nee
Merow), age 91, passed away peacefully on
October 23, 2021, in hospice, after a five year
battle with Dementia. Wife of Gerry and best
soulmate for 70 years. Mother of Ellen and
Lou Nolan and Sally and Pat Serio. Grand-
mother of Matt and Adrienne, Jeff, Peter and
Rebekah, Kevin and Shelby. Mother of Kenny
who unfortunately passed away 20 years ago.

A true renaissance woman, world traveler in-
cluding all seven continents, an entrepreneur
with great taste and vision who ran her own
interior design firm and even a licensed air-
plane pilot. A homemaker, social worker,
school teacher were among her many en-
deavor’s. A graduate of the University of
Pennsylvania where she spent as much time
with Gerry in the Architectural School and
she did in the College for Women. Ronnie
loved to travel and was the consummate or-
ganizer of trips to distant places including
Antarctica, all the time collecting more things
than anyone should. Ronnie’s happiest mo-
ments were when she was giving to others.

She will be remembered, missed, and forever

SOMERS STEIN
Shirley Stein died at home in Needham, MA,
Oct.19, surrounded by family. Age 100. A pi-
oneer, Shirley was one of the original and
most successful party planners in Phila, cre-
ating magical events for 40 years. Lifelong
Main Line resident, known for her kindness,
strength, generosity, great style, supreme
sense of humor, and roast chicken. Her beau-
tiful home, the site of so many happy celeb-
rations. Predeceased by husband of 70 years,
Harold, Shirley is survived by children Bob-
bie (Michael Jaffe), Judy, Marcia (Walter
Adams), Andrew (Carol), 7 grandchildren, 7
great grandchildren, niece Geri Reinhardt
(Scott), family and friends. Private funeral.

TOUB STEIN
Judith Esther Stein (nee Klieman), of Potom-
ac, MD, formerly of Philadelphia, PA. April 7,
1938-November 3, 2021. The 83 year-old
educator received her Bachelor’s Degree
from Temple University and Master’s Degree
from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Judy had
an illustrious career working for the Mont-
gomery County Board of Education. She
shared her lifelong passion for teaching both
in and outside the classroom. Students from
her English classes were invited to share
family meals and activities. Trips to mu-
seums, Broadway shows, and Shakespeare
performances were frequent additions to
their academic curriculums. She continued
her own passion for learning throughout her
retirement years with attendance at the OSH-
ER Johns Hopkins Continuing Education pro-
gram for more than 20 years. Judy had been
a member and frequent attendee for almost
50 years at Congregation Har Shalom of Po-
tomac, MD. Doing mitzvahs and offering sup-
port for their community was part of her way
of giving back to so many who had given to
her and her family. Judy was the daughter of
the late Harriet and Paul Klieman. Beloved
wife of Martin, devoted mother of Laura Stein
and Jessica (Kyle) Solomon. Loving sister of
Susan Klieman and Carol (Allen) Lowe and
the late Dr. Charles H. Klieman. Amazing
grandmother of Mason Solomon and Noa So-
lomon. Also survived by 4 nieces and neph-
ews and 5 great nieces and nephews. Judy
was surrounded by her loving family who
provided endless care and comfort during her
courageous battle with kidney and liver dis-

Penn Valley, beloved wife of the late Aaron
Shubin and daughter of the late Reba and

(Jonathan Metter), Jay Greenberg and Au-

ZAKUTO Bernard L. Zakuto, age 94, on October 23,
2021; of Philadelphia, PA, where he resided
all his life. Bernard was a widower. He mar-
ried Margaret (nee Paltenstein) in 1952, they
were married for 25 years before her un-
timely passing. He was the loving father of
Joel (Terry), Annette, David (Lizabeth) and
the late Marc (Nessa); devoted brother of
Shirley Ann Berger (Gerald); cherished
grandfather of Malka Laya, Bayla Shifra,
Maita, Brocha, Ahuva Miriam, Milana, Jason
and Amber; also survived by 17 great-grand-
children and counting, as well as many
nieces, nephews and friends whom he loved
dearly and loved him, including his compan-
ion of 30 years the late Shirley Schechter.

Bernard served in WWII and was a very hard
worker. He loved dancing, great food, fine
dining, beautiful destinations for vacations,
and loved to treat both his friends and family
to all of that. He will be greatly missed.
