BANK DEATH NOTICES
BANK Celeste Bernadine Bank. Celeste passed away
November 2nd from Corona Virus at the age
of 91 in St. Louis, MO . Celeste was the be-
loved wife of the late Preston Bank. Dear
mother of Patti Bank Rudi (husband Tom
Rudi) and Cherie Bank. And adored grand-
mother of Emily Bank, Tommy Bank Rudi and
the late Alexandra Bank Greenberg. Dear
cousin of Harvey Brown and Marcene Tock-
man who more were like siblings to her. She
was a beloved Aunt and friend to many.
Celeste was born in St Louis, Mo to the late
Leah (Bassin) Brown and the late Sam
Brown. She attended Soldan High School and
graduated from Washington University with a
degree in History. Celeste taught for many
years in the Parkway District. Celeste loved to
travel the world with her husband Preston.
They had a 60 year love affair and marriage.
She was admired as the kindest person to
everyone. She always had a smile for you and
compassion for what you were going
through. She saw the beauty in everyone and
everything. Celeste was a long time member
of the Great Books Club , enjoyed Broadway
musicals and Ella Fitzgerald and always gave
her tennis game the good old college try.
Celeste developed Alzheimer’s disease and
spent her later years in Parc Provence. She
greatly enjoyed her time with special friends
Linda Laramie, Nancy Laramie and Barbara
Wolf. When you think of Celeste always pic-
ture her eating chocolate, her favorite food
group. A private graveside service was held
on November 4, 2020 at Beth Hamedrosh Ha-
godol in St. Louis, and officiated by Rabbi
Randy Fleisher of Central Reform Congrega-

BERGER MEMORIAL CHAPEL
BANKS Cecelia Banks, age 95, died November 17,
2020 peacefully in her sleep. Ceil, or “Babe”
to her friends and family, was a devoted wife
to the late Irving “Sooky” Banks and loving
mother to the late Robin and Scott Banks.
She was a loyal friend, retaining strong rela-
tionships from as far back as childhood. Ceil
is survived by her grandson Sean Banks, his
wife Laura, and newly born great-grandson
Sawyer, as well as her daughter-in-law Robin
Katz Banks; nieces Shelley, Linda, Jordyn,
Harriet; and nephews Eric and Danny. Her life
motto was “Make today count.” Ceil de-
lighted in music, dancing, learning, and Pea-
nut Chews. She was known for her infec-
tious laugh and sparkling sense of humor.

BASKIN Malva (Cohen) Baskin, of Bala Cynwyd, PA,
passed away on October 30th, 2020. Be-
loved mother of Bonnie Mazis (the late
Robert), Lisa McIntosh (John), and the late
Bradley Baskin; cherished grandmother of
Melissa, Ryan, Jamie and Alexandra; adoring
great-grandmother of Addison, Mackenzie
and Willow. Dear sister of the late Anne Ber-
man and loving Aunt Moz to Dennis (Carla)
and Michele (Glen).

BEECHMAN SCHNALL
Marillyn “Dolly” Beechman Schnall (nee
Lush) was born April 9, 1924 in Philadelphia
and succumbed on October 29, 2020 to long-
term complications from stroke. A four-dec-
ade resident of Wyndmoor, PA, since 2013
she had resided at Sunrise in Abington, PA.
Dolly earned a B. A. from University of
Pennsylvania in 1944 as a Spanish major and
an M.F.A. in theater from Temple University
School of Theater and Communications in
1970. Her first paid work in theater was at
age 16 as a summer stock apprentice at the
Cape Theater in Cape May, New Jersey.
Eventually she appeared in on-stage roles
there and many other local stages, including
the Philadelphia Theater Company, the Las-
alle Music Theater, Temple University, the
Keswick Theater, and the Burgundy Room
Theater. She was a member of both the
Screen Actor's Guild and Actor's Equity. She
worked not only as an actor, but also direc-
ted numerous local productions. She worked
independently as an acting coach, and taught
theater at Rutgers Camden, Camden County
Community College, and Penn State Abing-
ton. She was also a playwright, working with
Enchantment Theater Company, writing and
directing commercial efforts such as the
Strawbridge Christmas show, and in collab-
oration with the late Patricia Sternberg writ-
ing Philadelphia Parade of Progress for the
bicentennial celebration, The Treaty Never
Broken (about William Penn), and Sojourner
(a biographical play about Sojourner Truth).
Her last work, funded by a Pennsylvania
Council on the Arts grant, is Without the
Sainted Father, a play about Abe Lincoln's
family in the years after his assassination.
She served on the boards of The Walnut
Street Theater, the Wilma Theater, Act II
Playhouse, Enchantment Theater, and 1812
Productions. Dolly married Dr. Nathan
Schnall in 1984, and together they helped
provide financial support to the non-profit
theater community in Philadelphia. In 2008,
Dolly Beechman Schnall was honored as
“Woman of the Year” by 1812, and received
the Barrymore Award for Lifetime Achieve-
ment for Excellence in Theatre from the
Theatre Alliance of Greater Philadelphia. Dolly
maintained a lifelong interest in expanding
her knowledge of Romance languages, and
after retiring from teaching, took courses in
Latin at Chestnut Hill College. In addition to
serving on boards, she also travelled with her
husband Dr. Nathan Schnall, widely and fre-
quently throughout Europe. Dolly and Nate
were also devoted to the Shaw Festival in
Niagara-on-the-Lake, in Canada, making
many annual trips. Dolly is survived by her
husband, Dr. Nathan Schnall, and her daugh-
ters Claudia Cohen (Barry), Jane Segal
(Steven), and grandchildren Beryl Cohen, Re-
id Cohen, Julian Segal (Lauren), Evan Segal
(Gabrielle), Brett Segal, Beatrice Dolly Segal,
and nephew Bruce Maggin. She was pre-de-
ceased by her first husband Eugene Beech-
man, daughter Laurie Beechman, her brother
Jay Lush, her sister Berniece Maggin, and
niece Beth Yoser. For the sake of pandemic
safety, graveside services were private. The
family will plan for a memorial gathering at a
safer time. Anyone wishing to honor Dolly
should contribute to the Laurie Beechman
Scholarship Fund at University of the Arts or
any Philadelphia area non-profit theater.

her, Maye Grosser Cohen passed away

graduate. After a successful career as a
teacher and raising her five children, Maye
received a M.A. in counselling from Villanova
University, and went on to become a guid-
ance counselor and develop a private prac-
tice specializing in family therapy. Her grand-
children and great grandchildren filled her
later years with enormous joy. We will miss

CHATZKEL BLASS
Maryellen (Thomas) Blass, 73, of Phil-
adelphia, passed away peacefully on Monday,
November 16, 2020 at Thomas Jefferson
University Hospital, Philadelphia. She was the
devoted wife of Mark Blass, with whom she
shared over 49 years of loving marriage.
Born in Fountain Hill, she was the daughter of
the late Harry and Sylvia (Glazier) Thomas.
Maryellen earned her Bachelors degree in So-
ciology and Psychology andher Masters de-
gree in Counseling. She was employed by the
Pennsylvania Department of Welfare, Sweet
Home (NY) School District and the Bethle-
hem Area School District until retiring. She
was a member of Congregation Brith Sho-
lom, Bethlehem. Maryellen enjoyed cooking,
reading and Miniature Schnauzers. Survivors:
In addition to her loving husband Mark; son
Evan Nelson Blass and her loving sister Jane
Spitzer. Services: Graveside services will be
