Manuel Respes, the sixth son born to Rabbi
Abel and Viola Respes both of blessed
memory, departed this life on October 25,
2016 after battling myxoid liposarcoma, a
rare cancer. In his final days, he was sur-
rounded in love with his wife, children, son-
in-law, and granddaughters as well as sib-
lings, nephews, and nieces, which gave him
happiness, peace and comfort. Manuel atten-
ded Mullica Twp. Schools and Oakcrest High
School where he was a top track athlete. He
was offered many college scholarships for
track, but refused to run on the Shabbat so
he turned them down. His professional ca-
reer included roles in business, finance, and
property management. For nearly 15 years,
he was employed by Stryker Orthopedics in
Runnemede, NJ. Manuel had a fervent love
for his Judaic way of life and had a special re-
lationship with the Almighty. A day was not
complete without reading from his Tanakh/
Torah. He followed in his father's footsteps
with his devotion to God, and passion for Ad-
at Beyt Mosheh Synogogue. Early on, he was
a member of the congregation's musical
group and played the drums. Manuel regu-
larly led services on Shabbat after his father’s
passing, and over the years on Sundays you
could often find him in the Adat Beyt Mosheh
Community doing work to preserve its
beauty. He taught his children Hebrew, and
held dvar Torah classes every Shabbat after-
noon. The term “family man” was an under-
statement. He loved his family dearly. He was
adamant about spending family time togeth-
er, and fashioned a Judaic home filled with
love, loyalty and honor. He loved listening to
music, especially Hebrew songs. He enjoyed
playing recreational softball and basketball.

He was dedicated to the Mullica Twp. com-
munity by serving on the Mullica Twp School
Board of Education for more than 7 years,
and was the Vice President of the Mullica
Twp Education Foundation from its inception.

Manuel was an annual volunteer for the
American Cancer Society for 30 years+.

Manuel will be missed dearly, and leaves be-
hind many to mourn him starting with his be-
loved wife Melody “Shirah” (Coulter) of 36
years, and five children Illanah, Davidah (Re-
spes) Yip, Sarah, Gadiel and Eliyahu, as well
as his son-in-law Gregory Yip and two grand-
daughters, Abygail and Emanuela Yip, and
mother-in-law Hazel Rementer. He also
leaves behind four brothers, Joel, Elkanah,
Gamliel, and Benjamin; ten sisters, Rivka,
Gabrielle, Judith, Leah, Zayith, Keturah,
Michal, Miriam, Hadassah, and Gilah, and
many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-
nephews, and extended family. He is prede-
ceased by his siblings Anita, Diane, Abel,
Tirzah, Mosheh, and Eliyahu. Interment

tions can be made in memory of Manuel Re-
spes to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer
