She graduated from Myers High School in Wilkes-Barre, and attended Pennsylvania State University, where she met her future husband Norman M. Fryman, whom she mar- ried on December 2, 1951, in her home town. To all who knew her, she lived a life of signi- ficance and consequence. Blessed with a sharp, self-deprecating sense of humor, an infectious laugh, and an innate compassion and generosity, she influenced everyone she touched. Though her comfort zone was backstage, out of the limelight, her spirit, her curiosity, her meticulous attention to detail, her unerring judgment, and her boundless optimism and hopefulness affected and changed the world around her, a gift and a responsibility she left to her children, her grandchildren, and generations yet to come. She was an avid reader, movie goer, and tele- vision watcher, constantly informed, good with number and word games, from cross- words to Scrabble to backgammon, and clev- er and inspiring in her own writing to family and friends. Her life was courageous and en- gaged, an inspiration to all who knew her, and a clarion call to keep hope alive. She was dauntless and brave. Through hospital- izations and relentless pain, she never gave up, never gave an inch, and made her family and the community in which she lived the better for it. GOOSENBERG DEATH NOTICES GOOSENBERG Pearl Goosenberg (nee Goldstein), born April 17, 1932 was taken from us on March 31, 2017 after an absolutely beautiful life. She gave unconditional love to her beloved hus- band of 64 years, Stanley, to her children El- len (Donald Kent), and Eric (Robyn Faye), and to her doting grandchildren, Scott, Hallie and David Goosenberg, and Jake Kent. She was the daughter of David and Jennie Gold- stein and the sister of Thelma Paul, all of lov- ing memory. She never failed to brighten up a room when she entered it, sought and loved the opportunity to be with others, and had a marvelous ability to make anyone she engaged (family, friend, stranger, even a few celebrities) feel as if they were the most im- portant person on Earth. She spent most of her working years as a bookkeeper and ac- cessories salesperson in men’s clothing – first at Adams Clothes in Cedarbrook, then at Jack Lang in Oxford Valley, then at Fleet’s in Northeastern Philadelphia. She later man- aged an apartment complex for its owner, Arnold Tuzman for many years, after which she sold jewelry in Willow Grove, then finally she worked as a volunteer at Abington Hos- pital’s Warminster branch. A proud graduate of Olney High School, she developed busi- ness smarts and emotional intelligence cher- ished by countless work associates with whom she became lifelong friends. She had an intuitive understanding of human behavi- or and could always find a way to settle dis- putes between others that made both sides feel good. She often met clandestinely with her children, their friends (who often consul- ted her privately) and her grandchildren, and somehow always could give useful advice. She took many secrets with her. Although she never played a musical instrument, she constantly played music in the house, and imbued her family with her love of jazz, Brazilian bossa nova and the greats from Sarah Vaughn to Frank Sinatra. She had an extraordinary command of jazz classics and artists and took us to concerts of all types over the years, always having the time of her life. She loved and had the chance to meet Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett (her favor- ites) and introduced her son to some of his musical heroes like George Benson and Stan Getz. In later years, she enjoyed hobnobbing with actors James Gandolfini, Joe Mantegna and Edie Falco, and got a kick out of dancing with Tom Hanks at the Emmy Awards with her daughter. She and Stan often traveled with their children and grandchildren and were the most appreciative travel compan- ions imaginable. They visited Israel, Italy and Spain and the Caribbean with us and enjoyed sunbathing, making countless friends by the pool and especially spending time with her beloved family. She had endless love for and pride in her family, and never hesitated to tell us. We all hope that we may be able to pass on even a small part of her joyful positivity, and know that she will be in our hearts forever. Contributions in her memory may be made to Abington Hospital Hospice where Pearl spent many hours as a volunteer bring- ing some sunshine to those dealing with the final chapter of life. https://give.abington- health.org/donate-now (then select “Hospice” or your preference) or by mail to Abington Health Foundation at 1200 Old York Road in Abington, PA 19001. Well into his 99th year, Harold was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle to those fortunate enough to share his life. His love for family was unlimited. Har- old graduated from City College of New York in 1938 and earned a master’s degree in chemistry from New York University before serving honorably as a staff sergeant in the Army Air Force and surviving as a prisoner of war in Nazi Germany. On his 26th mission in February 1945, after dropping four 500- pound bombs from a B-25 in northern Italy to prevent the Nazis from transporting arma- ments back into Germany, his crew was shot down and had to crash land in Austria, close to neutral Switzerland. All six crew mem- bers survived the crash as well as the war. Harold was proud to have served his country in fighting fascism. Soon after he returned stateside, his sisters (Eve and Stellie) intro- duced him to Evelyn Schneyer, kicking off a 70-year match made in heaven. With Evelyn, he raised three children, Sharon, Andy and Kim, devoting himself to their education and welfare, just as his parents had done for him and his two sisters. Harold’s love for family transferred to his children, and he experi- enced great joy through his four grandsons, Ari, David, Noah, and Matthew, as well as through his children's spouses, Elvira, Janice and Larry. A loyal Yankee fan, he took his sons to see Mickey Mantle hit three home runs in a 1962 doubleheader. He also en- joyed the back and forth with his grandsons who rooted against the Yankees. His Juda- ism ran deep—he was a man of faith and a strong believer in the State of Israel. He helped create the Hebrew High School of the Five Towns on Long Island and served as President of its Board of Directors. His fam- ily is incredibly grateful that Harold enjoyed such a good and long life. He loved to talk, laugh and sing. He has been a great bless- ing to his entire family and will be missed.
