RAPHAEL-SACKS SIGAL
SHATZ Geraldine Ann Shatz passed away on April 4,
2020 at her home in New York City. Geri had
an insatiable appetite for knowledge and for
wisdom. To fulfill these desires, Geri read,
traveled, listened, and then read some more.

This motivation fueled her rise through the
leadership ranks of many philanthropic or-
ganizations such as Jewish National Fund
and Kol Emet Synagogue. To Geri, no indi-
vidual lacked perspective or insight. Her dis-
cussions would drift effortlessly from the
economic conditions of Yerucham to the un-
told history of Moroccan cuisine. Geri did not
set the topic and she used every interaction
to distill facts and understand perspective.

Completing the Saturday edition of the New
York Times crossword puzzle was mere
routine. Geri is survived by her sister, Nicki
(David), her three sons, Theodore, James
(Elizabeth) and Rick and by Carol Weiss. She
is pre-deceased by her parents Harry Weiss
and Lyla Weiss. Geri is also survived by
countless friends and relatives on every con-
tinent that have had the unique opportunity to
engage in projects, discussions, crusades
and so many other meaningful activities. It is
impossible to encapsulate her memory for all
of these individuals. Burial took place on April
7, 2020. In lieu of flowers, the family re-
quests that you may participate in her me-
morial services at a future date when the
world is permitted to reconvene and properly
celebrate Geri.
