Goldie “Gerry” Schwartz (nee Hoffman),
passed away on March 20, 2017 at the age of
97. Beloved wife of the late Herman. Loving
mother of Barry (H. Monna) Schwartz and
Gayle Felzer. Adoring sister of Lenora Free-
man and Mark (Barbara) Hoffman. Loving
grandmother of Stephanie (Gregory) Webb,
Abbey (Dr. Chad) Gordon, Josh and Justin
Felzer, and Brian (Bess) Schwartz. Adoring
great-grandmother of Peyton, Sam, Austin,
Sage, Sebastian, and Teddy. Loving aunt of
David and Renate Ruthberg, Lee and Sue
Freeman and Brian Freeman. Caring Aunt to
her great nieces and great nephews, also sur-
vived by her adopted son, Dr. Stephen Fin-
berg. Goldie was a dedicated head secretary
for 25 years at the Ada H. Lewis Middle

RAPHAEL-SACKS Our beloved Debby Schwartz age 61 daugh-
ter of Holocaust survivors Louis and Helen
Schwartz who preceded her, of Langhorne
PA passed away March 17, 2017. Debby was
a warrior who overcame the adversaries of
renal carcinoma for over thirty years. She
was surrounded by her loving family and
friends. She is survived by her brother Stan
(Cindy Epstein) and sister Randye (Ed
Gralla). Debby was a loving aunt of Oren (Jill
Silverman), Shelley (David Wilson), Tobey
(Shay Hughes), Eli (Yarrow Yard) and a be-
loved great aunt of Quinn and Evan. She is
also survived by many more loving family
members and because of her endearing
nature by many close and loving friends.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, you may honor her

cer Center in honor of Dr. Naomi Haas, or to

SHAPSON SHAPIRO
Dr. Marion Shapiro (née Goldman) 88 years
old, passed away on February 28th surroun-
ded by her loving family. She was the wife of
the late Jim Shapiro, and is survived by her
children Michael Shapiro (Diane), Susan
Siegel (Donald) and Jon Shapiro (Babette).
She was grandmother to Mathilda “Mattie”
Shapiro (Mark), Jason Siegel (Lauren), Jam-
ie Storrow (Ben), Graham Shapiro (Lior),
Aaron Shapiro (fiancé Natalie), Gabriel Sha-
piro, Collin Shapiro (fiancé Ashley), and Jes-
sica Shapiro. She was a devoted great grand-
mother to Lili Shapiro and Eleanor Siegel.
Marion was a longtime resident of Chelten-
ham township, attending Shoemaker Ele-
mentary School and Ogontz High School. As
a child she lived on Marion Road in Elkins
Park, which was named after her. She atten-
ded Penn State and earned her liberal arts
undergraduate degree. She was passionate
about education; She later earned a Masters
in Special Education and worked as a read-
ing specialist at Wordsworth Academy. She
subsequently earned a doctorate in clinical
psychology from Hahnemann University,
graduating with honors. She became the As-
sociate Director of the Van Hammet Clinic at
Hahnemann, taught classes and also main-
tained a private practice. After retiring from
her practice, she graduated from the adult
education program at Gratz College, and pur-
sued her interests in travel and community
service. She was Chairman of the Board and
longtime supporter of Eagleville Drug and Al-
cohol Rehabilitation Hospital. She estab-
lished the Shapiro Family Fund at Eagleville
Hospital which supports education for hos-
pital patients. Marion had an indomitable
spirit, and a zest for life. She was a friend to
many and opened her home to many people
over the years. Despite many life threatening
illnesses, her love of life and those around
her sustained her long and productive life.

Miriam Singer (nee Cohen), age 94, died on
March 18, 2017. Beloved wife of the late
Joseph A. Singer; beloved mother of Sarah,
Molly, and the late Abram Singer; mother-in-
law of Diane Ely. She was a lifelong Phil-
adelphian who grew up in Logan where she
graduated from Simon Gratz H.S. She was a
medical secretary and a stay-at-home moth-
er until she resumed work as a secretary at
Tyler School of Art when her children were
grown. She was a lifelong learner with a spe-
cial interest in the arts, but also learned to
swim as an adult and even took skiing les-
sons alongside her children. She was an avid
Inquirer reader who also made time for the
New Yorker, Time and books for her book
club. She enjoyed bridge and mahjong
games with friends. She was a kind and gen-
erous woman, a good listener who always re-
membered birthdays and celebrated them
with her friends, spouses, nieces, nephews,
and great-nieces and nephews. She was
well-loved by her friends and family and will

February 19, 2017. She was a supermarket
owner who resided in Philadelphia, PA. Wife
