She made numerous anonymous benefactions in- cluding many gifts of college tuition and a fund to care for Jewish HIV-AIDS patients. Her great loves were her family, her country, Tripp Lake Camp, traveling the world, paint- ing, antiques, reading, and laughing. She was a life-long patron of the orchestra, opera, theaters, and museums of Philadelphia. The character trait she most admired was “stick- to-itiveness.” The family is very grateful for the compassionate efforts of her longtime housekeeper Maria Pereira, her steadfast caregivers Beverly Brown, Tamika Whiting, Stacey Flowers, Stacey Scott, and the nurses of the Visiting Nurse Association of Greater Philadelphia. Helene was a true inspiration to many during the last six years (as she was through the rest of her life), as she fought with grace, dignity and strength, never giving in to the disease, through the very end. Helene is survived by her loving husband and best friend of 56 years Jerome Bogutz, children Marc (Laurie) Bogutz of Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania and Tami Bogutz Steinberg of Voorhees, New Jersey, sister Lenore Koplin (Paul) Seidman of Henderson, Nevada, grandchildren Stephanie Bogutz, Jessica Bogutz and Ariel Steinberg and step-grandchildren Avital, Nadiv and Benjamin Steinberg. Helene was born in Philadelphia, PA on July 27, 1937. She was the daughter of the late Betty and Jack Ross. A graduate of Temple University with a B.A. in Education, Helene taught second grade in the Philadelphia school system. She later co- owned and operated a party decorating busi- ness on the Main Line in the late 70's/early 80’s. Helene was active in the American Friends of Hebrew University and was honored with Jerry as Founders of Hebrew University in Jerusalem. Helene was in- volved in local, state and national Bar Associ- ation activities for over forty years with Jerry. She brought her energy, passion and self- lessness to the many charitable and com- munity works she was involved in over the years. Her great loves were her family and friends, traveling, painting, needlepoint, golf- ing, gardening, theater, reading and simply enjoying life. Helene’s final thoughts re- mained focused on the issues of others rather than her own. Helene wanted future ovarian cancer patients to face a better out- look. Helene’s focus was on early detection, something almost nonexistent today. After spending time with the Director of The Penn Ovarian Cancer Research Center (part of the Abramson Cancer Center), Helene and Jerry established the Helene Ross Bogutz Ovarian Cancer Early Detection Fund at the Ab- ramson Cancer Center, which will be funding the first Helene Ross Bogutz Conference on early detection on October 16, 2017. The Conference will be hosted by doctors from the Abramson Cancer Center with speakers and attendees from major hospitals and re- search centers from around the country. Hopefully, the collaboration will accelerate progress on early detection. Helene was op- timistic that new treatments, cures and pre- vention of ovarian cancer are achievable. Helene wanted her greatest legacy, beyond her family, to be an increased focus on this somewhat neglected disease and attract oth- ers to support the effort. Relatives and friends were invited to Services at Beth Am Temple, 2259 Central Blvd., Jupiter, Florida on Monday, February 27, 2017 at 2 p.m. The burial followed at the Star of David Cemetery of the Palm Beaches, 9321 Memorial Park Rd, West Palm Beach, Florida. After her divorce Gertrude also be- came more involved in athletic and feminist issues. For about a decade she was involved in a group of professional female athletes bringing medical education and athletic in- formation to countries such as Costa Rica, Guatemala and El Salvador. She was 92 years old. The funeral was held at Platt Me- morial Chapels on Monday January 16, 2017. She was buried at Locustwood Memorial Park in Cherry Hill NJ. Daughter of the late Berl and Eva Feldleyfer. Wife of the late Simeon Salzberg. Mother of Felix (Lyudmila) Salzberg of Cherry Hill NJ, Irene Salzberg (Nigel Meachen) of Valley Forge PA, the late Oleg Salzberg and the late Alick Salzberg. Grandmother of Eve and Greg Salzberg and Claire Meachen. Sister of Mendel (Ella) Feld- leyfer of South Bend IN, and the late Tsiva Sklyarova. Aunt of Genie and Nicki Feldleyfer, and Stella Braslavsky. She also left behind numerous loving relatives and friends. Sarra was born in 1924 outside of Kiev Ukraine (former USSR) and then moved to Baku Azerbaijan (USSR) in her teen years. She re- ceived a Mechanical Engineering degree from Azerbaijan State Oil and Industrial University (Baku Azerbaijan USSR). She worked for many years in Azerbaijan (USSR). She led an HVAC department in Sumgait, Azerbaijan for 5 to 10 years before mandatory retirement at age 55. After retirement in the Soviet Union, she moved to the USA in 1981. She worked at Kling Lindquist Inc. and then United Engin- eering/ Raytheon in Philadelphia PA until she retired in 1998 at the age of 73. After retire- ment, she spent time helping raise her grand- children and influenced the educational direc- tion they take today. She used her business and engineering mind to help the community where she lived. One of her legacies is the pedestrian light crossing at Chestnut Street and Route 38 in Cherry Hill, NJ. When all crossing gaps on NJ Rt. 38 were closed, that blocked people from crossing Route 38 between Cherry Hill Mall and a circle, she got a petition together, drew up drawings to demonstrate the problem and was able to convince the local government that this crossing was essential to the community and businesses in the area. Two years later, a pedestrian crossing light was installed and Cherry Hill Township and the Freeholders of Camden County NJ honored Sarra for this project. Since 2005 this pedestrian crossing light has benefited many people in the com- munity and will for many years to come. Samuel Wurtzel, on March 8, 2017. Sam lived a purposeful and accomplished life right up to the moment he died peacefully in his adopted Kentucky home. Sam, as he was known to his family, clients and countless friends from Philadelphia to Madisonville, KY to Captiva, FL was engaging, generous and boundlessly curious. He was an entrepren- eur and innovator in investing, insurance and private wealth management. Sam was born in Rosenhayn, NJ and grew up in Philadelphia. He was a proud graduate of Central High School, and a 1958 business graduate of THE Penn State. An accomplished trumpetist and aspiring jazz musician, life circumstances de- manded he pursue a more practical career path. Same began working at Provident Mu- tual as a recruiting and training supervisor; he led the number one agency by 1963 and was eventually President of the Field Force. He established Financial Security Analysts (which served his customers for 50 years) and made Million Dollar Round table for 40 years, and Top 50 member for 25 years. Sam holds multiple degrees in advanced fin- ancial planning, and taught at both the Amer- ican College of Underwriters and Temple Dental School. His deep passion for his family and the many ways he could inspire each of them toward daily self-improvement in mind, body and spirit were his life’s mission. Sam was an ar- dent correspondent, and if you met him even once you were likely to receive a lifetime of newspaper articles and clippings perfectly suited to your interest. His mastery of vast swaths of knowledge was legend – a font of semi-useless knowledge, as he termed it. Sam is pre-deceased by his parents, Anna and William Wurtzel and his daughter Wendy, and by his beautiful wife of 45 years, Phyllis.
