It is with great sadness that the family of
Jerry Rosen announce his passing, at the age
of 79 years old in Philadelphia on June 2nd.
Born in Philadelphia, he spent the majority of
his adult life in Atlanta, Georgia. After a life-
time of working in sales, he co-founded J&L
Foods, a successful food distribution busi-
ness in 1979 and retired in 2001. He was also
a veteran of the United States Army. Jerry is
remembered by his children, Holly, Amy, and
Mindi, and son-in-laws Brian Fink and Daryl
Hirsch. Jerry is also remembered by his
grandchildren, Olivia and Max. Jerry is bur-
ied at Washington Crossing National
Cemetery in Newtown, Pennsylvania at Sec-
tion 32, Site 1007.

SCHAEFFER Harold G. Schaeffer, Real Estate Pioneer, died
at 89. Harold, longtime chairman of Kravco,
one of the nation’s leading real estate devel-
opment companies, died at the age of 89 at
Penn Presbyterian Hospital on Saturday,
June 17, 2017. Mr. Schaeffer joined Phil-
adelphia’s M.A. Kravitz Company in 1957. He
led its efforts in selecting sites and attracting
anchor stores for the burgeoning shopping
center sector, including its flagship King of
Prussia Mall. After taking over leadership
with his partner Arthur L. Powell, the newly
named Kravco Company became one of the
nation’s leading shopping mall development
and management companies. Mr. Schaeffer
also consulted on many charitable projects
including for the Ford Foundation, Princeton
University, and the Opportunities Industrializ-
ation Corporation. In addition, he advised on
the Bedford Stuyvesant restoration; redevel-
opment of Boston’s Faneuil Hall; Portland,
Maine; Saratoga, NY; Bethlehem, PA and oth-
er cities. A native Philadelphian, Mr. Schaef-
fer graduated from Central High School in
1945 and Temple University in 1950. He was
later awarded an honorary doctorate from
Temple’s Fox School of Business. He served
in the Naval Reserve Program and then in the
U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. Mr.
Schaeffer was an avid outdoorsman who
loved hunting, fishing, sailing, and flying. His
incredible sense of humor brought joy to
those whose lives he touched. He and his
loving wife, Adele K. Schaeffer, have been
dedicated philanthropists, supporting educa-
tional scholarships, the arts, education, med-
ical research and clinical care. They have
been longtime supporters of the University of
Pennsylvania, Penn Medicine, the Wistar In-
stitute, the Academy of Music, the Phil-
adelphia Orchestra, scholarship programs at
Temple University and Gwynedd Mercy Col-
lege, among many others. In addition to his
wife, Adele, Harold Schaeffer is survived by
three sons children Anthony (Katie), James
(Nicole) and Robert (Stephanie); brother Ray-
mond Schaeffer; and five grandchildren. He
was predeceased by his parents Herman and
Rose Schaeffer, and siblings Toby Wexler
and Alfred Schaeffer. Relatives and friends

Beach, Florida passed away Monday April 24,
2017 at Harbour's Edge. Ethel was born in

Elkins Park, Pa, Ethel was the wife of the late
Martin W. Simon. She was mother to Ronda
Morganstein (Andy) Stonick and Mark (De-
borah) Simon. Grandmother to Ross Mor-

mother of Matthew and Benjamin Krupnick

SMITH Susan Michele Smith (née Berger), artist,
daughter of the late Morton J. Berger, piano
teacher, passed away May 3, 2017, at the age
of 58. She is survived by her mother, Sylvia;
two brothers, Bill and Barry; and two daugh-
ters, Sarah and Hilary. She was born and
raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and
graduated from the Philadelphia College of
Textiles and Science, majoring in Fabric
Design. She was a loving daughter, mother,
sister, and aunt. She will be missed.

STEINBERG Rose Z. Steinberg (nee Zevin) passed away
on April 21, 2017 at the age of 104. Born in
Philadelphia on October 18, 1912 she atten-
ded the Blaine School and William Penn High
School for girls. She lived variously in South
Philadelphia, Phoenixville, Kensington, Ox-
ford Circle and finally South Florida. Rose
was the mother of Stephen (dec) (Rae) (dec)
and Mitchell (Lori) Steinberg. The grand-
mother of Mindy Zeigerman, Judy Kriegler,
Jeff and David Steinberg, Jennifer (Steinberg)
Kaufman and great grandmother to Zara and
Arianne Zeigerman, Alyssa Kriegler, Emilie
and Bennett Steinberg, Zachary and Nava
Steinberg and Samuel Kaufman. Her sib-
lings were Bess (nee Zevin) Weiss (dec)
Molly (nee Zevin) Schwartz and Albert Zevin.
Rose was well-known for her extensive work
in the real estate business, first with her late
husband Jacob’s Real Estate Brokerage in the
Kensington and Allegheny area then in Ox-
ford Circle with the firms of Harry D. Toben
and Herman Cohen. Later she became a li-
censed Insurance Agent and tax accountant
working tirelessly to raise her 2 sons. Rose
traveled extensively to the Far Fast and was a
loving supporter of the State of Israel visiting
there several times and was an early mem-
ber of Pioneer Women (now Na’amat USA) at
the founding of the State of Israel and an avid
supporter of the Simon Weisenthal Center.
Rose was the beloved matriarch of the Stein-
berg Zevin family and will be greatly missed
for her inspiration and wisdom she imparted
to her many family members and friends.
Graveside services were held at Mt. Jacob
Cemetery where her indominable sprit is now
reunited with her beloved parents Samuel
and Jenny (nee Zevin), her sister Bess and
her son Stephen. Contributions in her

YEUSON WEXLER
Ginia Davis Wexler was born and raised in
Philadelphia. She died on June 7, 2017, at
the age of 99. She was the oldest of five chil-
dren born to Hilda and Meyer Davis. Her fath-
er, Meyer, was the conductor, and her moth-
er was a pianist and composer. Ginia's uncle,
the conductor Pierre Monteux, was married
to her mother's sister. Her family received
numerous visiting actors and musicians in
their home and Ginia grew up surrounded by
music of all kinds. In 1968, she married Mor-
ris M. Wexler, who died in 1993. She is sur-
vived by her stepson, Lewis Weller, who lives
in Philadelphia, and niece, Mavis Melissa
Davis, who lives in Maine, as well as other re-
latives. She wrote that she wants to be re-
membered "as an artist and a presenter of
artists to children and adults. She was a
communicator and a concerned human be-
ing towards all the problems of humanity.
She believed in one world, no war; peace
among all peoples." Gina was once asked
"What gives your life its purpose and mean-
ing?" She responded, "The beauty in music,
art , nature. The kindness of people. The joy
in having a pet. The smiles and joy of chil-
dren. The possibility of peace in this beauti-
ful world we inhabit. All mankind living in
peace." Her career as a singer embraced op-
era, recital, orchestra appearances, theatre
and folk music. Some of her performances
have been with the Royal Belgian Opera in
Brussels, the Pittsburgh and London Sym-
phonies, "Call Me Mister" on Broadway and
many New York recitals. Gina traveled around
the world and collected songs in many lands.
She sang in 22 languages. She performed for
children as an ambassador for the U.S. In-
formation Service under its Cultural Ex-
change Program in India and Africa.Ginia's
maternal family has roots in Bar Harbor, and
she owns a farmstead in Sullivan, Maine. It
was here every summer that she organized
free performances for children in her own
Barn Theatre, and hired various entertainers
for the enjoyment of the children. She was an
original benefactor of The Grand Theater. She
directed the Performing Arts for Children
Series that took place at the Grand. She also
sponsored scholarships for the arts for stu-
dents at Sumner High School and Mountain
View Middle School. She was a supporter
and Board member of the Pierre Monteux
School for Conductors and Orchestra Musi-
cians in Hancock, Maine, as well as an active
member of the Sullivan-Sorrento Historical
Society. A Memorial Gathering will be held on
Saturday, August 19, 2017 at 1 p.m. in the
Pierre Monteux Forest Studio, 42 Melody
Lane, in Hancock, Maine. A private funeral
will be held sometime this summer in Phil-
adelphia at the Joseph Levine and Sons Me-
morial Chapel, Inc. 215-942-4700, Trevose,
