CUTLER Leonard Stanley Cutler, a pillar of the Phil-
adelphia business and Jewish communities
died of natural causes at his Bala Cynwyd
home on the morning of May 30, 2017, at the
age of 93. He is survived by his wife of al-
most seventy years, the former Racine Saul.

He is also survived by his three children, Dr.

Charles Cutler, Linda Cutler and Carol Cutler
as well as their spouses, Dr. Beverly Cutler
and Gregg Young. Leonard had six grand-
children (Jenny Cutler, Ali Cutler, Stacey
Schor, Max Young, Nathaniel Young and Lily
Young) and four great grandchildren. Mr.

Cutler was born in West Philadelphia to
Charles and Claire Cuter in 1924. In the
midst of the Great Depression Charles foun-
ded Cutler Dairy Products in what is now So-
ciety Hill, as well as Supreme Dairy in Bal-
timore, Maryland. In 1943 Leonard gradu-
ated from what was then known as Phil-
adelphia Military College (now Widener Col-
lege) and entered the Army Air Corp, serving
with distinction in the South Pacific. Upon
his honorable discharge from the service he
assumed the reins of the family dairy busi-
ness, renamed it Cutler Egg Products, Inc.,
and ultimately moved its Philadelphia
headquarters to Sedgely Avenue in North
Philadelphia and extended its operation into
the Southeast United States as well as Cent-
ral America. While business was important to
Leonard Cutler, even more important was his
devotion to his family and to the Jewish com-
munity of Philadelphia. He was a member of
the congregation of Beth Am Israel since its
founding in 1925 and, in fact, was a Bar
Mitzvah in its West Philadelphia sanctuary in
1937 and again in its relocated Penn Valley
sanctuary in 2007 at the age of 83. In 2015
he and his wife were honored by the Beth Am
Israel congregation at its 90th anniversary
celebration for his lifelong service and dedic-
ation to the Beth Am Israel community. In ad-
dition to this bond with Beth Am Israel, Le-
onard was also a member of Adath Israel in
Merion, where he attended daily minyan until
the last few months. He was a beloved hus-
band, father, grandfather, great grandfather
and friend and was an exemplar of the
Greatest Generation. He will be sorely
missed. GOLDSTEINS' ROSENBERG'S

DAVIS FELDMAN
Edgar P. Davis, 89, devoted husband, father
and grandfather, lost his battle with cancer
on Monday, June 12, 2017. He passed away
peacefully in the early morning hours. He is
survived by his loving wife of 54 years,
Selma (nee Roseman); his three children,
Wendy Pollack (Ted Pollack), Sally, and Mor-
ris (Kim Liddle); and seven grandchildren:
Kayla, Harrison, Josephine, Luke, Jackson,
Lauren, and Brett. A natural storyteller, Edgar
loved meeting new people and could quickly
put anyone at ease. His kind face, gentle
eyes, and childlike joy in laughter made him
seem very open and accessible to anyone. He
delighted in telling jokes and funny stories --
a trait that was an asset when he started a ca-
reer in sales. Ultimately, he secured a mar-
keting position with the Philadelphia Gas
Works, from which he retired in 1989. After
leaving PGW, he went on to become an
award-winning photographer and photo-
journalist. His photos appeared in the Phil-
adelphia Inquirer, Main Line Life, and other
publications. A passionate jazz fan, Edgar
never tired of listening to the classic record-
ings that filled his younger years. Among his
favorites were Jimmy Durante’s “Won’t You
Come Home, Bill Bailey?” and Louis Arm-
strong’s “St. James Infirmary Blues.” His
children and friends fondly recall his love for
singing, and visitors to his bedside in recent
weeks often heard him sing along with Dur-
ante and Armstrong as well as songs by
Sinatra, Ellington, and more. Edgar and
Selma traveled extensively, visiting Hawaii (a
favorite destination), Puerto Rico, Alaska,
Montana, Washington, and other locales over
the years. Edgar met Selma in Atlantic City
over Labor Day weekend in 1961 and they
were married 14 months later. Edgar was

DEATH NOTICES
GERSHMAN Revelle Gershman was born in Philadelphia
to Joseph and Bessie Shambelan. She spent
part of her formative years in Richmond, Vir-
ginia, and Scranton, Pennsylvania before her
family settled back in Philadelphia. After
graduating from Girls High in Philadelphia,
she worked for the City Parks Department,
rescuing a few kittens from drowning along
the way. She also worked at Bell Telephone
during the day to put herself through Temple
University in the evening. When she needed
to learn a language to graduate, at the insist-
ence of a professor she took off for Europe in
1952 to learn French. After traveling around
Europe and studying at the Sorbonne in Par-
is she returned to the USA, with plans to re-
turn. Her return to France was delayed when
she met her husband to be, Louis, and they
were married within six months. She did fi-
nally return seventeen years later, and the
rest of her life was marked by repeated visits
to Europe especially France and Switzerland.

At the beginning of her marriage, she taught
high school history despite majoring in Eng-
lish in college. Her teaching career came to
an end as the family grew. In addition to
raising three children and watching two
grandchildren grow up, Revelle found time to
volunteer in a variety of ways. From her act-
ive life at Main Line Reform Temple where
she was president of the sisterhood and a
member of the Temple board of trustees to
helping work on political campaigns to her
most recent work with MANNA – the Metro-
politan Nutrition Network Aids Alliance –
which prepares and delivers meals to people
suffering from aids. She received an award
for being their longest serving volunteer for
her 25 years of service. Revelle’s world was
filled with people from all over the world and
all walks of life. Her house was like an inter-
national hotel. All who came were welcomed
like her children. She kept in touch with all -
including a woman from her first European
trip in the 1950’s, who became one of her
closest and dearest friends, to the new
friends she made in the last few years. Rev-
elle is survived by her three children Jo (hus-
band Daniel), Gary and Ian and her two
grandsons, Gabriel and Riley. In lieu of dona-
tions, contributions can be made in honor of
Revelle Gershman to MANNA, 420 N 20 th st,
