JOSEPH LEVINE and SONS
RIMM Sigmund “Sig” S. Rimm, who served as Mar-
gate City Commissioner for 32 years, died on
Wednesday, May 20, 2020 after a short ill-
ness. Known to many as “Commissioner Sig
Rimm”, he devoted himself to public service
in Margate from 1975 until his retirement in
2007. He was peacefully laid to rest on
Sunday, May 24, 2020 in a beautiful
graveside service along with many loved
ones who were able to attend virtually
through modern technology. Rimm was born
on December 8, 1931 in Atlantic City to the
late Honorable Judge Benjamin A. Rimm and
Elizabeth (Bess) Rimm. He attended The
Wharton School of the University of
Pennsylvania and was successful as an ac-
countant and financial consultant for many
years in the greater Atlantic City area. He was
married to the late Barbara Rimm in 1954. In
1980 he married Carol Rimm and they were
very happy together for forty years. As a
South Jersey high school football official, Sig
was at home on the field as he strived to be
fair in every play he called. Being athletic
since his childhood, he enjoyed the game and
his role in it. Following in the high moral
standards that he learned so well from his
parents and family, Sig devoted his entire life
to “simply doing what’s right,” for his family,
friends, business associates, acquaintances,
colleagues, those in need and especially for
Atlantic City and his beloved Margate. As
Commissioner Rimm, he prioritized the
safety and well-being of the citizens of Mar-
gate. He was fully dedicated to making Mar-
gate the beautiful and peaceful town that it is
today. As a testament to Sig Rimm’s commit-
ment and dedication to the town he loved, the
Jerome Avenue Recreation Complex has
been named in his honor. The Sigmund S.

Rimm Recreational Complex is a gathering
place for sports games and events and gen-
eral fun for people of all ages. Providing
people with opportunities to enjoy them-
selves in Margate was a great joy for Sig. Sig
Rimm has left a timeless legacy of respect,
dignity, honesty, integrity, and most of all
love for his family and friends. He exuded a
constant sense of protection and security to
those around him. He was a man who stood
up for what was right and actively followed
his convictions. Sig is survived by his loving
wife Carol and their four children: Carol
Messing, Michael Rimm (Gabi Galler-Rimm),
Eliot Graff (Lora Heiney) and Felicia "Lisa"
Christensen (Neil); his younger brother Al-
fred “Bucky,” Rimm (Sylvia “Simi” Rimm);
his grandchildren: Ephraim Messing (Tali),
Devorah Esses (Avi), Penina Claman (Zolly),
Miriam Rackoff (Aaron), Adrian Rimm, Juli-
an Rimm, Brian (Avery) Christensen, Steph-
en Christensen (Courtney Drake) and Rhys
Graff and eleven great grandchildren. The
South Jersey region, and Margate City, in
particular, were profoundly enhanced by the
sincere efforts of Sigmund S. Rimm He was a
true leader, most often putting others’ needs
before his own. He will be missed by the
many people he reached out to and posit-
ively affected in his lifetime. Above all else,
Sig was a family man. His memory will live
on in the kind deeds and actions of his loved
ones forever. The family plans to have an
event in the near future in celebration and re-
membrance of the life of Sigmund S. Rimm.

The family greatly appreciates any contribu-
tions made in Sig’s memory to the following
charitable organization: The Parkinson's
Foundation, 200 SE 1st Street, Suite 800,

GOLDSTEINS' ROSENBERG'S
RAPHAEL-SACKS Michael Topf (77), born in Newark, NJ,
September 16, 1942, died at home in
Narberth, PA on May 17, 2020 with his be-
loved wife of 43 years, Linda, by his side. A
graduate of Columbia HS in Maplewood, NJ,
Michael earned a BS and three master's de-
grees. Landmark Education and being or-
dained a minister fueled his desire to make a
difference in the world. He was a skilled mar-
tial artist and disciple of Grand Master Pete
Pajil. Michael's loyalty, character and living
from the heart were shining examples to
everyone. He also loved playing the piano.

Friends will find comfort hearing Michael's
exquisite music in their hearts forever. He
worked as a research assistant, hospital ad-
ministrator, mental health counselor and
business consultant. He founded Topf Initiat-
ives in 1983 and became a pioneer in pre-
ventive holistic health and safety. By facilitat-
ing workshops worldwide, he helped thou-
sands of people live healthier and more
safely. Michael and his wife Linda personi-
fied "mindful" loving and partnership in their
marriage. She often said "Michael is the wind
beneath my wings." Linda, diagnosed with
MS in 1981, called Michael her muse, inspir-
ation and support for many of her creative
projects. She is an ordained minister, pub-
lished author and Michael's inspiration as
well. Friends say Michael was an "extraordin-
ary human being" who lovingly spread joy
through his natural sense of humor, enga-
ging smile, "big, juicy warm heart" and light-
hearted personality. Quote: "Michael lived
what he espoused. Was he a perfect man?
Could he be annoying? Sure, but that was
wrapping paper. I always saw the gem inside
the wrapper." He will be missed forever. De-
tails for Michael's memorial are at www.han-

YOUNG DEATH NOTICES
DEATH NOTICES
WEINSTEIN Dr. Geraldine Prose Young of Rydal, PA,
known to family and friends as “Gerry,”
passed away peacefully on June 14th after a
long struggle with dementia. She was prede-
ceased by her husband of 68 years, Irving
Young, and is survived by her three children,
Carl Young, Diane Young Uniman and hus-
band Howard Uniman, and Nancy Young and
husband Jeffrey Melin; four grandchildren,
Harry Uniman and wife Amanda Dillman Uni-
man, Max Uniman and wife Elizabeth Lucken-
bill Uniman, Claire Melin Cohen and husband
Zack Cohen, and Julia Melin and husband Is-
rael Kositsky; plus three great grandchildren,
Joseph Samuel Uniman , Briar Rose Uniman,
and Benjamin Henry Cohen. Gerry was born
in the Bronx, NY on September 30, 1926. As
an inveterate lover of opera and classical mu-
sic, she was a member of the fourth graduat-
ing class of the High School of Music and Art
in the City of New York (now known as the
Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music &
Art and Performing Arts), and considered be-
coming a professional flutist before deciding
on a career in medicine. After graduating
from Brooklyn College in three years, and un-
daunted by the obstacles facing women in
medicine at that time, Gerry received her MD
degree from The SUNY Downstate College of
Medicine in 1951. As one of a handful of fe-
males in her medical school class, Gerry was
a pioneer for future generations of women
entering the medical profession. Notably,
such women included a daughter and grand-
daughter, both of whom readily acknowledge
the trail she blazed in balancing a successful
medical career with raising a loving family.

Gerry worked for thirty-five years as a cyto-
pathologist at the Albert Einstein Medical
Center in North Philadelphia. She also man-
aged a successful private practice diagnos-
ing PAP smears from the family home in
Elkins Park. Whereas other homes were filled
with more traditional aromas, the smell of
Xylene and other fixatives emanating from
the third-floor staining laboratory was ever
present in the Young household. Gerry made
seminal contributions to clinical research. For
example, she was an early proponent of fine
needle aspiration biopsy, which is now a
standard diagnostic tool. She also had a
strong sense of social responsibility, helping
to start a PAP screening clinic in Zimbabwe
after retiring in 1989. As impressive as these
accomplishments were, they were arguably
rivaled by her poise, grace, beauty and wit. A
great mimic, her sense of humor and infec-
tious laugh were legendary. She and Irv were
fixtures among their tight-knit group of
friends who oscillated between Elkins Park,
Isles of Capri, and Loveladies depending on
the season. Finally, Gerry was a truly wonder-
ful wife and mother. She was literally adored
by her entire family, and it’s no exaggeration
to say her iconic status only grew over time.

Although her disease ultimately robbed her
and her family of her gifts, her memory lives
on to both inspire and comfort all who knew
her. Contributions in Gerry’s memory should
be made to The Dr. Geraldine Prose Young
Fund at the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School
of Music & Art and Performing Arts or The
Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
