HARRIS Kenneth A. Harris, age 75, died in his home
in Boynton Beach, Florida on May 31, 2020.
He was the son of Jack and Mary Harris and
brother of Larry Harris. He grew up in Bay-
side, Queens. He attended Hofstra University,
played football for the New York Jets and
worked in the garment industry for over three
decades. He married Evelyn Meyer with
whom he raised three children. He is sur-
vived by his partner Marlene Cohen, his wife
of 32 years Evelyn Harris, his daughters Suzi
(J.D.) Abrams and Jackie (Greg) Weisman,
his son Marc Harris and his three grandchil-
dren, Jordyn, Max and Jacob. His love for his
family was limitless. He will be missed
greatly. Funeral Services for immediate fam-
ily will take place at Roosevelt Memorial Park
on June 2nd, at 2:00 PM. Donations in his

Jerome R. Kerner “Jerry” of Lafayette Hill,
passed away peacefully on Thursday May 21,
2020. He was 89 years old. Born June 26,
1930 in the Bronx section of New York. He
was the son of the late Joseph and Mollie
(nee Fleischer) Kerner, and the beloved hus-
band of Rita (nee Levin) Kerner. In addition
to his wife Rita, Jerry is survived by his three
children: Larry Kerner, Amy Kerner and Dr.
Steven Kerner (Linda), two grandchildren:
Emily and Jared and his sister Natalie Kent.
He was preceded in death by his sister
Helene Dieter. Jerry had a passion for bonsai,
volunteered to repair prayer books, volun-
teered at Einstein Hospital, local library, for
the hearing impaired and Franklin Institute.

PRILUKER OPPENHEIM
Surah A. “Sue” Oppenheim (nee Rosenthal)
died on May 17, 2020 at her longtime home
in Cheltenham, PA. She was the beloved wife
of the late Hyman M. “Hank” Oppenheim; lov-
ing mother of Jay Oppenheim, Donna Oppen-
heim and Wendy Oppenheim-Brokke (hus-
band Lynn); Devoted Grandmother of Heath-
er Brokke, and loving sister of Phyllis Weil.
She was predeceased by her, sister
Josephine R. Todes and her brother, Spen-
cer Rosenthal. Sue was born in Philadelphia
on September 12, 1923. She earned her
Bachelor’s degree in music from Temple Uni-
versity in 1945 and her Master’s degree in
counseling from Villanova University in 1975.
Thereafter, she served as an elementary
school guidance counselor in the Phil-
adelphia School District until her retirement
in 1993. During the time between receipt of
her degrees, she married Hank, and they
raised their three children. Hank died in 1978.
Sue was devoted to her family, was an ac-
complished pianist, and enjoyed music,
bridge, travel, reading and golf. Services
were private. A celebration of Sue’s life will

Raymond L. Raskin, 77, of King of Prussia, a
noted Philadelphia area bridge player (Platin-
um Life Master), on Thursday June 4, 2020.
Born February 20, 1943, in Philadelphia, he
was a son of the late Lewis and Libby (nee
Rappaport) Raskin and the husband of Meryl
(nee Smith) Raskin. He was the father of Fred
(Rebecca), Eric (Robin), Ari, and David
(Sindhu Zagoren). He is also survived by his
five grandchildren. Due to Covid-19 pandem-

PORTNEY Herbert Portnoy. Let us celebrate the life of
Herbert Portney. At age 84, he passed away
on Sunday, May 24th, 2020. Herb, a native
Philadelphian, was the beloved husband of
Charlene, z"l, and the loved and cherished
father of Kevan B. Portney (Nancy) and Dav-
id Aaron Portney, z"l (Tara). He is survived by
his brother Robert Portney (Marci). Herb will
be incredibly missed by his loving grandchil-
dren, Josh, Bryan and Makenzy. Born on May
18th, 1936 to Myer and Elsie Portney, he was
a Korean War veteran, serving his country
honorably before coming home to raise a
family. He was a salesman and restaurateur
in his early years. Later in life, he graduated
from Drexel and became an educator. He
rarely had a filter, but he always made every-
one feel welcomed. He is now at peace with
his mom, dad, amazing wife and loving son
David. His wonderful, ever-loving outlook and
personality will be missed.

RAWDIN Eugene Rawdin, PhD of Elkins Park, an en-
gineer whose career focused on innovating
and designing space and defense systems,
passed away on April 25, 2020 from complic-
ations from heart failure. Dr. Rawdin was 90.
A graduate of Brooklyn Polytechnic, Dr.
Rawdin received his PhD from the University
of Pennsylvania, Moore College of Engineer-
ing. Dr. Rawdin began his career in 1953 dur-
ing the Korean War as a commissioned of-
ficer in the Air Force. That same year, he
married his life’s love, Nona Neubauer, and
started a family of four children. Upon dis-
charge, Dr. Rawdin joined IBM, working in
the engineering group on projects including
mainframe-computing innovations. Most of
his career was spent at RCA and GE, focus-
ing on radar, defense, and space systems.
Dr. Rawdin was a life-long learner and teach-
er who frequently gave guest lectures at insti-
tutions including his alma mater. Foremost
was his love of family. He was married for 67
years and is survived by his adoring wife
Nona “Cookie”; four children, Scott (Alice),
Janis Rawdin-Walcoff (George, deceased),
Grant (Laura), and Suann Shuster (Robert); 8
grandchildren, Yasha, Alex, Jacob, Jesse (de-
ceased), Sydney, Jordan, Aaron, and Rachel;
and 1 great-grandchild, Penelope. Graveside
services with military honors took place on
April 28th. The Airforce’s Thunderbirds and
Navy’s Blue Angels fittingly performed a fly-
over that day. A memorial service will take
place at a later date. Donations in Dr.
Rawdin’s memory may be made to the Jew-
ish Federation of Greater Philadelphia.

16, 2020. Wife of the late Marvin. Mother of

William (Bill) Rudnick, 88, of North Wild-
wood, NJ passed away on June 17, 2020. Bill
was a machinist at Philadelphia Gear Corp.
for 40 years until his retirement in 1992. Bill
had several jobs after his retirement, worked
at Morey’s pier, worked at several auto part
stores, Wawa, etc. His hobbies in his earlier
years were boating, casino’s and he loved
going to the race track, you would find him
betting on the horses, always with this
cigar.& he loved his rose garden. He is sur-
vived by his wife of 68 years, Sandy, his
daughters Marilyn (Chris) and Sheila (Rick) ,
grandchildren Kevin (Liz) and Kelly and 4

SCHECTER Anita Evelyn Wene Schecter, 82, of Phil-
adelphia, passed away suddenly on June 2,
2020. She was born to the late Herman and
Pearl Wene, on April 9, 1938, in Philadelphia.
Anita attended Girls High School and later
Temple University where she studied biology
and cartography. She married Edward
Schecter on June 19, 1960, and they lived to-
gether in the Philadelphia area for their entire
lives. Anita is survived by her husband of al-
most 60 years, Edward, her four children:
Laura Rawdin (Grant), Jennifer (Joseph Gold-
berg), Suzanne (Eric Callahan), and K. Ma-
son (Liana Clark) and her five grandchildren;
Aaron, Rachel, Madeline, Julia and Zara. She
is also survived by her sister, Frances Collin
and her brother, Jay Wene. In addition to her
family Anita had many interests including
knitting sweaters and scarves for her chil-
dren and grandchildren, weaving (she was a
member of the Weaver’s Guild for several
years), reading and walking in the park, but
definitely not cooking. She had a green
thumb for plants that cooperated with her,
and a warm heart. She was the glue that held
together the many parts of her extended fam-
ily and she will be sorely missed. Funeral ser-

SCHIMMEL Marvin Schimmel, May 22, 2020 of Bala Cyn-
wyd, PA. Our beloved Marvin, 93, passed
away after a brief illness. Until his death, he
was President of the family business Royal
Electric Supply Company. A graduate of Penn
State University and a veteran of the Mer-
chant Marines, Marvin was an avid tennis
player until time caught up with his knees. He
also loved the Philly Pops, swimming, and
Penn State Nittany Lions football. His friends
from Penn State were his lifelong pals. A
long-suffering Eagles fan (except for 2019),
he loved watching tennis, and watching Phil-
lies games. He was comfortable around
power tools and electrical components, but
the kitchen proved more of a challenge. His
favorite color was yellow and his favorite
food was anything chocolate! A consummate
entertainer, he loved planning and hosting
elaborate parties. He is survived by his long-
time partner and beloved bashert of 55 years
