FREED Richard “Dick” Freed, June 7, 2018, of Bala
Cynwyd, PA. He passed away peacefully sur-
rounded by his loved ones on his 65th wed-
ding anniversary. Dick’s life flickered with an
incredible intellect, wit, kindness and child-
like sense of wonder. He loved literature, mu-
sic, politics, sports and desserts. His irre-
placeable presence will be missed im-
mensely by his family and dear friends. Cher-

Michael Freed, Gary (Penny) Freed and Susan
Freed Smith; grandfather of Rachel Freed,

FRIEDMAN Jill Merle Friedman of Jenkintown, PA, 57
years old, born on October 11th, 1960 on
May 7th, 2018. Daughter of Sandra and Ron-
ald Friedman, Sister of Jane Gregory and Juli
Zelahy, Aunt of William and Ryan Gregory
and Jake and Jesse Zelahy, Brother-in-law of
John Zelahy. Jill was a graduate of Abington
High School and Tyler College of Art. She
was a merchant in Philadelphia, her shop
"Modgirl" was very popular for finding one of
a kind unique pieces of jewelry and vintage
clothing for many years. Relatives and
friends were invited to a Memorial Service on
Sunday June 3rd at 11 A.M. Abramson Cen-
ter for Jewish Life, 1425 Horsham Road,
North Wales, PA. In lieu of flowers, contribu-
tions in Jill’s memory may be made to Ab-
ramson Center or a charity of your choice.

GERBER Rita Joy Gerber (nee Gersh) of Wyndmoor,
PA died on May 28, 2018. Beloved wife to
the late Joseph M. Gerber, devoted mother
of Glenn Gerber and Anna Gerber and loving
sister to Adele G. Greenfield. She will also be
missed by numerous nieces and nephews.

Graduate of Germantown High School and
the University of Pennsylvania. Funeral ser-
vices are private.

GORDON Herschel Ira Gordon Age 56, passed away
May 21, 2018. Born November 20, 1961 in
Wilmington, DE to the late Herman and Rosa-
lyn Gordon, Herschel grew up in Philadelphia,
PA, attended several schools, but graduated
from George Washington High School and at-
tended West Chester University. While in
high school, he read Torah weekly at Neziner
Congregation (now Temple Beth Zion - Beth
Israel). His love of Israel provided him the
opportunity to serve in the Israel Defense
Forces for 2 years, live on a kibbutz, and
work as a bookkeeper. Herschel returned to
the US, lived in Boston, MA, worked as a mail
courier, and became a (not so serious) fan of
Boston area sports. He then moved to
Phoenix, AZ then San Diego, CA where he
lived the remainder of his life. Herschel loved
the San Diego weather and the offerings of
the University of San Diego. He attended all
of their home basketball games and many of
their cultural events and lectures, becoming
well known among the people who worked
there. Despite his many challenges, Her-
schel was a kind, loving, and gentle soul. A
lifelong Philadelphia sports fan, he loved the
Eagles and Phillies. Herschel loved his fam-
ily and had an unending curiosity about the
world around him, conscientiously reading
the newspaper everyday, and following the
political situations. He had a passion for
reading books - mostly biographies, watch-
ing television, and seeing movies. Herschel
will be greatly missed by his family and by an
array of wonderfully supportive caregivers in
San Diego. Preceded in death by his parents,
Herman and Rosalyn Gordon; Herschel is
survived by his sisters, Rabbi Ellen Bernhardt
(Steve) and Rebecca Starr; nieces and neph-
ews, Idit Kendall (Jordan), Joshua
Romirowsky (Alexandra), Elana Gajer
(Joshua), Elianna Starr, Uri Starr, Jill Braasch
(Peter), Paula Bernhardt; and 10 great-nieces
and great-nephews. Graveside services were
Thursday, May 24, 2018. In lieu of flowers,

Edwin R. Goldenberg, former owner of Royal
Petroleum Co., died June 16, 2018, of Wyn-
newood Pa, formerly of Gladwyne PA and
Longport NJ. Husband of Harriette (nee
Muller); father of Karen (Gabe) Feder, Jill
(James) Donaldson, Jon Goldenberg and
Kathy Fellheimer; brother of Judith Berman;
grandfather "Eddie-Pop" of Danielle and Brian
Feder, Corey and Alyssa Donaldson, Lauren
and Alex Goldenberg, Harrison and Maxwell
Fellheimer. Mr. Goldenberg was a loving,
most loyal and generous man on the planet.

He loved his Saturday golf games at White
Manor and Meadowlands Country Clubs,
where he played for Snickers bars. He atten-
ded Penn State University and was a mem-
ber of Beta Sigma Rho. He was an Eagles fan
for over 60 yrs. He also made life better for
everyone around him. Contributions in his

95. Born on July 13, 1922 in Philadelphia,
she graduated from Girls High School. Later
in life, she worked as an administrative as-
sistant for the Institute of Pennsylvania Hos-
pital. Beloved wife of the late Elihu Heller;
mother of Paula (Robert) Mentusky and Phyl-
lis Fineman; grandmother of Andrew (Sara)
Richman; and great-grandmother of Lily and

(Linda) Snyder. Leonore was a graduate of
Olney High School and obtained her Bachel-

versity). She was an educator who focused
on improving her students’ learning skills and
was a senior administrator at various aca-
demic institutions including Arcadia and
Manatee Community College in Florida. She
also served as a docent at the John and
Mable Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota
providing educational tours to countless pat-
rons. Relatives and friends were invited to

KLINGHOFFER KERNOSH
Leonard Klinghoffer 90, of Philadelphia,
passed away on Thursday, June 7, 2018. He
was a kind and gentle man who was beloved
by his family and had an irreverent sense of
humor. Born on November 30, 1927, in Phil-
adelphia PA, he graduated from Simon Gratz
High School, served in the U.S. Army in
Korea, and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from
the University of Pennsylvania. After receiv-
ing his medical degree from Jefferson Medic-
al School, he completed his residency in or-
thopedic surgery at Jefferson and spent more
than 50 years in private practice. A proud
physician and a lifelong learner, he is sur-
vived by his wife, Barbara (nee Asbell); his
children, Nancy (Malcolm), Andy (Ilaria) and
Joanne (Alex); 6 grandchildren, Alison,
Jonathan, Isabelle, Jonah, Luca and Ben-
