FRANKFORD DEATH NOTICES
FRANKFORD Leila Audrey Vizer Frankford (nee Epstein)
was born in New York City while her mother
(Mary Epstein, a model) was visiting with her
sister. She was raised in Westmont,
Pennsylvania located on a hill above John-
stown. Leila would often remind the family
how Johnstown survived a flood. She had an
older brother, Jack and sister, Beatrice. Her
father, Louis Epstein, would market fruit and
vegetables to local markets. She attended
University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown, and
worked as a hair stylist to help fund her stud-
ies. As the baby in the family, she was
spoiled by her older brother and sister. When
she and her sister entered a talent competi-
tion with her older sister, they won second
place and dancing lessons with the famous
and talented Gene Kelly. Leila moved to Phil-
adelphia as a young independent woman
where she had her own salon. She also be-
came a member of the Philadelphia Piano Or-
chestra which would go on tour with twenty-
four pianists, six piano tuners and six cus-
tom made square grand pianos and one
grand piano. Two pianists would sit at each
piano. The entourage traveled to many loca-
tions along the east coast that could accom-
modate them. Their final concert, sponsored
by Bess and Harry Truman, benefitted Dis-
abled War Veterans. She took advantage of
many opportunities to learn and expand her
horizons, taking classes at the Curtis Insti-
tute, Julliard and Moore College of Art. She
was a founding member of Overbrook Park
Hadassah, and when she moved to Wyn-
newood, PA became active and served as
president of Main Line-Delaware County Ha-
dassah. She was so proud of her 4 genera-
tion Hadassah life membership pin and she
wore it on many occasions, showing off her
family depth in the organization. When she
moved to center city Philadelphia, she joined
Rodeph Shalom congregation, their sister-
hood, and the Council of Jewish Women. She
was predeceased by “the love of her life”
Clarence Frankford, who she adored and he
adored her. They traveled the world many
times over, watched from the 50-yard line
Eagle’s football games which Clarence
watched while she read a book! They atten-
ded classical concerts, Broadway shows and
artist openings. She had her dreams fulfilled
during her life with Clarence. Leila is sur-
vived by her son Mark Vizer and his wife,
Sue, her daughter Robin Vizer Thatcher, and
her grandchildren, Honey Vizer, Sarah Vizer
Thorrick (James), Brian Glucroft, Mitchell
Glucroft (Julie), Mandy Miller (Paul) and
great grandchildren, Isidor Thorrick, So-
lomon Thorrick, Judah Glucroft, and Maisie
Glucroft. Her grandchildren referred to Leila
as Grandma Leila (Yiya) because she wanted
to make sure as she aged that there were still
people who called her by her first name. Ser-
