DEATH NOTICES
RUDOLPH Henry Rudolph, 85, died Saturday, July 4,
2020 in Haverford, Pennsylvania of Parkin-
son’s and heart disease. Born August 15,
1934, the only child of immigrant Jewish par-
ents Bella (Sailor) and Samuel Rudolph,
Henry grew up on Mildred Street in the heart
of South Philly. An exceptional student at
South Philadelphia High School for Boys, he
earned a full scholarship to Temple Uni-
versity, where he received his B.S. Henry was
awarded a partial scholarship to study law at
The University of Pennsylvania but could not
afford the remaining tuition, so instead sat
for his CPA exams. He worked for one of
Philadelphia’s big accounting firms, the
United States Postal Service and the City of
Philadelphia. Henry was a gentle soul with
mischievous blue eyes and a big heart who
expressed his love of others through philan-
thropy. He supported charities that combat
prejudice, foster mental health, help immig-
rants and advocate for the underdog. He was
involved with the Jewish Federation of Great-
er Philadelphia and served on the Board of
Directors of the National Liberty Museum. A
homegrown sports fan, Henry loved his Phil-
lies and Eagles. He was an opera aficionado
who frequented the New York Met. He de-
lighted in international and domestic travel.
He studied history, art and politics and could
recall and discuss obscure facts until the last
months of his life. Because he was unpreten-
tious and keenly interested in others, he
could talk with anyone about anything. He
was a beloved and loyal friend. Henry is sur-
vived by his adopted family, Richard and
Elizabeth Nassau of West Chester, PA and by
devoted friend and advocate Betty Milgrim of
Bala Cynwyd, PA and their families. Many
thanks to the exemplary staff at Sunrise As-
sisted Living of Haverford, who treated Henry
as one of their own. In lieu of flowers, feel
free to make a donation to your favorite char-
ity. Due to COVID-19, funeral services will be

Samuel J. Savitz, Bala Cynwyd, PA (1936 -
2020). Born in West Philadelphia in 1936, the
son of Russian immigrants, Sam attended
West Philadelphia High School and Temple
University with concentrations in business
and actuarial science. He was recognized
early in his career as one of the country's
preeminent employee benefits and pension
actuaries. He is past president of the Americ-
an Society of Pension Actuaries and in 2009
the Society conferred a lifetime achievement
award for outstanding contributions to the in-
dustry. In 1964 Sam founded a benefits con-
sulting firm bearing his name, later acquired
by the accounting firm, Laventhol & Horwath,
and ultimately emerging again from
Laventhol as an independent company, from
which Sam retired in 1994, and which re-
tained his name for nearly another 25 years
until the firm was acquired by C-BIZ, a na-
tional accounting and consulting firm in
2018. Following a distinguished professional
career, Sam turned his attention to educa-
tional enrichment for another decade, audit-
ing art history and music courses at the Uni-
versity of Pennsylvania, and taking drawing
and sculpting courses (Sam also took box-
ing lessons and learned how to throw a
curveball!). In retirement, Sam embarked on
a lengthy second career of civic and com-
munity engagement and philanthropy,
serving as a supporter, trustee and respec-
ted thought leader of many venerable Phil-
adelphia arts and cultural organizations, in-
cluding The Philadelphia Orchestra, The
Philly Pops, The Mann Music Center, the
Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, The Na-
tional Liberty Museum and the National Mu-
seum of American Jewish History, among
others, and Sam was appointed a Senior Fel-
low of the Foreign Policy Research Institute
in 2003. Sam's tenure as a trustee or trustee
emeritus of several of these organizations in-
cluded periods during which the organiza-
tions were especially challenged by de-
creased public funding and increasing com-
petition for philanthropic gifts. Sam is sur-
vived, and will be greatly missed, by his be-
loved wife of 62 years, Selma (Goldberg); by
his children, Jacquie Stern (Eric), Steven
Savitz, and Michelle McCormack; by his be-
loved grandchildren Justin (Chelsey), Daniel,
Julia, Ryan, and Dylan; and by his new great-
granddaughter, Sofia. Services were held
privately at historic West Laurel Hill

gests contributions to any of the organiza-
tions to which Sam devoted his time and
support, or to another not-for-profit of your

of the origins of pawn brokering and under-

Marty knew the secret to the business: value
items so you can resell them for a profit and
never fall in love with the merchandise.
Marty, a certified member of the Gemologic-

Beth Spitalny Williamson, age 57 of Glad-
wyne, PA passed away at her home in Ki-
awah Island, South Carolina on Thursday, Ju-
ly 16 th 2020. She will forever be remembered
for her passion, humor, generosity and en-
ergy. Beth had a substantial impact on the
lives of many children and their families. She
was an accomplished pediatric occupational
therapist earning both her master’s degree
and her PhD. Beth had a very rewarding posi-
tion at Albany Med Neonatal Intensive Care,
where her expertise and experience was
greatly valued. She was an educator and ad-
visor to numerous students at Russel Sage
college where she taught and mentored both
undergraduate and graduate students. She
started her own clinic, Fiesta Pediatric Ther-
apy, where she oversaw treatment of more
than 200 children every week. Fiesta was
considered one of the most progressive and
effective pediatric practices in all of Arizona
due to Beth’s conscientious oversight and
hands on approach that she instilled in the
entire staff. In addition to her contributions to
education and to the treatment of severely
disabled children, she generously devoted
her time to the SPOON Foundation, teaching
others proper therapy and feeding tech-
niques for children in orphanages that she
visited in India, Vietnam and China. Beth was
a certified Pilates instructor, avid interior dec-
orator and talented seamstress. She would
tell you, however, that the most important job
of all was being a mother to her two boys,
Jacob (31) and Samuel (28) Spitalny. She
was an incredibly devoted and loving mother
and could be found on the sidelines of every
single soccer game and ski race as the boys’
biggest fan. She exuded thoughtfulness in
everything she did; from stocking the refri-
gerator with everyone’s favorite foods to
patching Sam’s favorite T-shirt so he could
continue to wear it. She had a keen eye for
organization and had the unique ability to
make any space feel like home. There was
nothing Beth would not do for her boys.
Beth’s friends and family will miss the way
she could make everyone laugh. Her quick
wit and often wildly inappropriate sense of
humor had the ability to make any situation
funny. Her humor especially shined when she
was in the presence of her two best friends,
Suzanne and Angela. Beth is survived by her
two sons, Jacob (Annie Darves) and Samuel
Spitalny; her mother, Toba Coren; her
identical twin sister, Lauren Sara; her sisters,
Ruth Sklut and Rebecca Ynocencio; her step
sisters, Jamie Herrschaft and Phyllis Berg-
maier; her step-brother Steve Coren; her

Martin Wood, 84, born October 5, 1935,
passed away early Tuesday morning after an
extended illness. Marty will be remembered
for his honesty, integrity, and character.
Marty was proud to have been born in At-
lantic City and did not venture too far during
his lifetime. Marty attended Atlantic City High
School and then Temple University, where he
earned a degree in Business. Marty returned
every summer to take his place on his life-
guard stand on the Atlantic City beach. Even
as Marty knew the end was near, he would
look at his prize possession: a framed ACBP
jacket hanging on the wall in the apartment,
and express his fondness for his days as a
member of the Atlantic City Beach Patrol. In
college, Marty was a member of Pi Lambda
fraternity, and served as its Social Chairman.
Marty loved to tell stories of his college days
at the fraternity and kept in touch with his
“brothers” over the years. After college,
Marty served in the U.S. Army. Marty worked
in military intelligence and was part of a
group of soldiers who helped integrate the
schools in Little Rock, Arkansas. Marty re-
ceived an honorable discharge and came
back to Atlantic City to help run the family
pawnshop. Marty’s roommate in college in-
troduced him to the love of his life, Golda.
Upon return from the service, Marty popped
the question and Golda and Marty moved to
Margate to raise a family. Golda stood by
Marty’s side until the very end. Marty and
Golda enjoyed a loving, loyal, and protective
relationship, lasting almost 60 years. Golda
was Marty’s friend, confidante and organizer.
Golda made the plans and Marty showed up.
Together they had two sons, Jonathan and
Eric. Jonathan predeceased Marty in 2001.
Marty was blessed with a loving daughter-in-
law, Antoinette, and two grandchildren,
Rachel and Riley. Marty loved his grandchil-
dren, and especially enjoyed spending time
with them on the beach. Marty was charit-
able with his time as well as his finances, and
served on various committees for several or-
ganizations during his lifetime. Marty rose to
leadership positions in several of those or-
ganizations. Marty was Commodore of the
Margate City Yacht Club, and President of
