ARONSON Harriet F. Aronson, of Delray Beach, Florida
formally of NE Philly, passed away on July 7,
2019. Loving wife to the late Ellis Aronson.

Adored mother of Jodi Aronson and Mitchell
and Rebecca Aronson. Cherished grandmoth-
er of Alexandra, Marisa, Justin and Max. Ser-
vices were held in Florida on July 10, 2019.

AZORSKY Beverly Joice Azorsky, June 25, 2019, of
Cherry Hill, NJ. Devoted wife for 63 years of
the late Dr. Joseph L. Azorsky, loving mother
of Shauna (Emanuel) Greenberg and Gary
(Jeanne Markey) Azorsky, beloved grand-
mother of Carly, Brett, Andrew and Evan.

Upon completion of her B.S. Degree in Edu-
cation from the University of Pittsburgh,
where she was a member of the Sigma Delta
Tau sorority, she taught primary grades at
The Cooper School in Camden, NJ from
1953-1955. A pillar of her community, she
served on the cabinet of the Jewish Federa-
tion of South Jersey and held various cam-
paign positions, including Vice Chairman of
the Campaign, Chairman of the Business &
Professional Division, Co-Chairman of Spe-
cial Gifts, and Area Chairman of the General
Division – Cherry Hill. Participating as a sis-
terhood member of Beth Jacob Synagogue
and also belonging to Beth El Synagogue,
Mrs. Azorsky served as an auxiliary member
of the Jewish Geriatric Home of Cherry Hill.

She served on the board of Jewish Family
and Children Service, held membership in the
Council of Jewish Women and the Women’s
Service Group for several years, and was a
life member of Hadassah. Mrs. Azorsky was
strong, selfless, and supportive, and her fam-
ily was her greatest source of pride and joy.

Daniel Banks, of Wynnewood, PA passed
away on June 24, 2019 at 86 years old. Be-
loved husband of Jacquelyn (nee Hollin); lov-
ing father of Theodora Matisoff and Alexan-
der Banks; fond father-in-law to Joshua Mat-
isoff and Sarah Flier; adoring grandfather of
Penelope, Calliope and Linus; devoted broth-
er of the late Maurice Banks and the late Eu-
gene Banks. He lived in Wynnewood for 44
years and will be dearly missed. Daniel grew
up in Strawberry Mansion and was an honor
graduate of the Central High School. He
earned a bachelor's degree in civil engineer-
ing and a master's degree in mechanical en-
gineering from the University of
Pennsylvania. Daniel had worked as a struc-
tural engineer in the design and testing of
fighter bombers for North American Aviation,
and for the General Electric Company's Mis-
sile and Space Division in the design and re-
covery of one of the first US satellites. Daniel
is best remembered for his 50+ years as a
home inspector and residential and industrial
structural engineer. In lieu of flowers, contri-
butions in his memory may be made to the
Golden Slipper Club/Camp.

BAYUK It is with great sadness that the family of
Thelma T. Bayuk announces her passing on
June 26, 2019 at the age of 87 years old. De-
voted wife for 57 years of the late Ford M.

Bayuk (late Allan Reif), Barbara (Frank, Jr.)
Janas, and Michael (Lisa) Bayuk. Beloved
grandmother of Ilyse (Charles) Lind, Stuart
Reif, David (Jennifer) Janas, Michael Janas,
Ashley (David) Robinette, Jessica Bayuk and
the late Richard Reif. Loving great-grand-
mother of Faiga, Devorah, Chana, Miriam,
and Rivkah; and sister Sonia Morgenstern.

Thelma, a resident of Willow Grove, was an
avid reader and wonderful cook. She donated
her time and skills to knitting lap blankets for
The Fox Chase Cancer Center. A long-time
member of the Congregation Keneseth Israel
and its sisterhood, she actively participated in
discussion groups, casino trips, and exercise
classes offered at The Regency Towers. Be-
sides being a wonderful homemaker, she act-
ively worked in her husband’s business be-
fore retiring. Mrs. Bayuk was strong, selfless,
and supportive, and her family was her
greatest source of pride and joy.

BLACKMAN Evelyn Berlin (nee Shore), July 17, 2019; of
Rydal, PA; age 97; beloved wife of the late
Ralph; loving mother of Jeffrey Berlin (Anne)
and Michael Berlin (Louise); cherished grand-
mother of Allison (Ryan), Rachel (Michael),
Joshua (Ilana) and Samuel (Tara); adored
great-grandmother of Andrew, Ryder and
Fiona. Services and interment will be private.

JOSEPH LEVINE and SONS
BIRNHAK J. Robert (Bob) Birnhak passed away at his
long-time residence July 14, 2019 with his
close family at his side. He was co-founder
and co-director of Weight Watchers of Phil-
adelphia, Inc. which he founded in 1964 in
the Mt. Airy section of Philadelphia with his
late wife, Marilyn Price Birnhak, who died in
2018. Birnhak was born in the Bronx section
of New York City to parents Samuel and Rae
Birnhak and is the brother of Shelley (Robin)
Birnhak. He is a graduate of DeWitt Clinton
High School in the Bronx and Brooklyn Col-
lege in New York City. He received a law de-
gree from New York University where he also
received his LLM degree. A World War II vet-
eran, he served in the United States Army
Signal Intelligence Corps serving in the Phil-
ippines and Australia. Following his service,
he returned to New York working first in in-
surance and then joined the Queens County
District Attorney’s office as an Assistant Dis-
trict Attorney. Birnhak also served as an Al-
derman for his Queens district in New York
and was president of the Wagner Democratic
Club there. He additionally served as a New
York State Assemblyman for his Queens dis-
trict. Prior to founding their own Weight
Watchers franchise, he and his wife, Marilyn
were introduced to the weight-loss program
when they attended founder, Jean Nidetch’s
meetings in New York. They became busi-
ness partners and personal friends over the
next several decades. Since its founding in
1964, with eight members, Weight Watchers
of Philadelphia, now doing business as WW
Philadelphia serves up to 20,000 members
weekly in 450 Wellness Workshops
throughout 11-counties in Southeastern, PA
and Southwestern, New Jersey. The Birnhaks
had three children, John, Tracey, and Valerie
and raised them in their Laverock, PA home
in Montgomery County. Tracey and John
both worked in the business as vice presid-
ents prior to Tracey’s passing after a cour-
ageous battle with breast cancer. Valerie
works in the arts. John is currently serving as
president of the company. Mr. Birnhak sat on
numerous Boards and his philanthropic
works included the Jewish Federation of
Greater Philadelphia, Beth Sholom Congrega-
tion, American Friends of Mogen David Ad-
om, American Associates of Ben Gurion Uni-
versity of the Negev, as well as many other
charitable organizations. Along with his late
wife, Marilyn, Mr. Birnhak was instrumental
in opening the 54 bed Birnhak Transitional
Care Unit at Abramson Center for Jewish Life
and the new 35 bed Abramson Senior Care
Birnhak Transitional Care Unit at Lankenau
Hospital opening Wedneday, July 17 th 2019.

He was also a benefactor for the Abramson
Cancer Center – Perelman Center as well as
many other organizations. He was a mem-
ber of the Union League of Philadelphia. Mr.

Birnhak was a patron of the Arts in Phil-
adelphia. He and Marilyn donated gener-
ously to the Philadelphia Theatre Company.

He also created the Philadelphia Police and
Fire Department Weight Watchers Battle of
the Badges Competition. Besides his chil-
dren, Mr. Birnhak is survived by his brother,
Shelley (Robin) brother-in-law Stuart (Es-
telle), children, Valerie (Chris) and John and
five grandchildren Lauren, David, Alex, Rae
and Kiki. Contributions in his memory may be

BRILL Jerome Brill (Zussy) of Abington died July 4,
2019 at age 89. He was the husband of the
late Myrna (nee Copman) for 42 years, the
father of Dr. Janice L. Miller, (Jeff) and
Robert F. Brill and grandfather of Harris and
Paulina Miller. Zussy was the son of the late
Joseph and Yetta Brill, brother of the late
Selma Zucker and Pauline Weintraub. He is
also survived by nephews Mike Zucker, Phil
Zucker (Stephanie), Barry Weintraub, and
niece Pauline “Pitzie” Linsky (Bruce). Zussy
was the only member of his family to be born
in the United States. He was a retired physic-
al therapist who graduated the University of
Pennsylvania School of Allied Medical Pro-
fessions, a life member of the American
Physical Therapy Association, a member of
Old York Road Temple - Beth Am and a U.S.

Navy veteran. In retirement he enjoyed his
visits to his family roots in Lithuania as well
as visits with his beloved Tanta Malka. Con-
