ABLAZA DEATH NOTICES
ABLAZA Sariel G.G. Ablaza M.D. passed away after a
long illness at home in Moorestown, New
Jersey on January 14, 2019. He was born in
Hagonoy, Bulacan, Philippines to Paciencia
Gutierrez and Cipriano Ablaza. Sariel gradu-
ated from the University of the Philippines,
College of Medicine in 1951, and completed
his Thoracic Surgery residency at Hahne-
mann Medical College and Hospital in Phil-
adelphia, and Maryland General Hospital in
Baltimore. He specialized in Cardiac and
Thoracic Surgery and had a long and distin-
guished career practicing in Philadelphia and
New Jersey. Sariel was Chairman of Cardiop-
ulmonary Surgery at Albert Einstein Medical
Center, Northern Division from 1972-1987
and Clinical Professor at Medical College of
Pennsylvania, where he also served as Chief
of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery. He
wrote and published over 40 scientific art-
icles on surgery and held a patent for the sur-
gical device for treatment of dissecting an-
eurysms. He retired from private practice in
1996. Sariel touched many lives as a teacher,
leader, physician and friend. His hobbies and
interests included gardening, poetry, raising
orchids and cooking Filipino food for his fam-
ily and friends. Sariel is survived by his wife,
Andie (Braunstein), and their daughter Alix-
andra. He is also survived by his children
from a prior marriage, David (Alyssa), Brian,
Sheri Locarno (Mario) and Valerie, and by
grandchildren Caitlin Ablaza, Brendan Loc-
arno, Marco Locarno and Luke, Thomas,
Mary, DJ and Nicky Ablaza. He was preceded
in death by his sisters Elsie Ablaza, Leiway-
way Garcia and brother Ismael Ablaza. His
surviving siblings Nora DeLeon, Lulu Samin
and Lydia Lu share in our loss. A special
thanks to his loving caregiver and friend,
Maria LaTouche-Davis. Sariel leaves behind a
large and loving extended family here and in
the Philippines. His family and friends will
miss his generosity, sensitivity and intelli-
gence. Ashes will be distributed to his family.

AXE BERMAN
Beverly Constance (Solomon) Axe, 94,
passed away peacefully on October 26, 2018
in Warminster, PA. She donated her body to
University of PA Medical School. Raised in
Far Rockaway, NY, Beverly moved to Phil-
adelphia in 1950 upon marrying Norman Axe,
her husband of 60 years and later moved
with her family to Cheltenham. An active
member of Congregation KI in Elkins Park,
Beverly was dedicated to imparting her love
of Judaism to her family. Beverly enthusiast-
ically enjoyed a variety of activities
throughout her life. She was an avid reader
and founding member of a book group which
lasted more than 45 years. A talented and
prolific knitter, she enjoyed teaching others
to knit. Beverly loved to swim, play bridge,
take walks, go to plays and frequent thrift
stores, often generously gifting her finds to
family and friends. Beverly is survived by her
three children, Susan, Francesca, and Martin,
her sons-in-law, Peter and Alex and her
grandchildren, Johanna, Stephanie, Gabe and
Bradley. A memorial service will be held in
the spring.

BARNETT Annette Sarah Barnett (nee Edelson). Janu-
ary 16, 2019 of Media, Pa. Wife of the late
Isa. Mother of Ivan (Allison) Barnett, Andre
Barnett (Susan) and Stephen (Janice)
Barnett. Also survived by three grandchil-
dren. Contributions in her memory may be

BERGER Betty Berger (nee Grossman), January 12,
2019; of Audubon, PA; beloved wife of the
late Irvin; loving mother of Steve Berger
(Ilene), Lee Berger (Amy) and the late James
Berger (Cindy); also survived by 7 cherished
grandchildren and 8 adored great-grandchil-
dren. She & her husband shared a special
marriage of 73 years. She viewed everything
through the lens of service to her family and
her Judaic principals. She will be re-
membered as a wonderful woman and will
never be forgotten. Graveside services were
held on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at
Hyam Salomon Memorial Park, Frazer, PA.

BERMAN Randi Berman, daughter of Malcolm and Car-
olyn Pritzker, passed quietly on December
21, 2018. Having attended Abington Friends
School, American University and Penn State,
Randi married her husband Jay in 1985.

Despite being diagnosed with Multiple Scler-
osis in 1986, Randi embraced life with a
sense of humor, courage, a love of art, her
cats, and an indomitable spirit. She cared
deeply for those she loved and was comfor-
ted by their love in return. Wife, daughter,
sister, friend, she saw the world in vivid col-
ors both warm and engaging. Survived by
her husband Jay Berman, Malcolm and
Sandy Pritzker, and her brother, Andrew, she
will be remembered by those she loved, and
she will be missed. Graveside services were
held on Wednesday, December 26, 2018, at
Haym Salomon Memorial Park 200 Moores
Road, Frazer, PA 19355. Contributions can
be made to the Delaware Valley Chapter of
the National Multiple Sclerosis Society or
Bryn Mawr Hospital.

David L. Berman, age 89, died on January 13,
2019. He was a retired chemist who resided
in Wynnewood, PA. Beloved husband of

Thelma Bricklin (nee Neff), age 95, passed
peacefully on January 14, 2019 in her Cherry
Hill home after an accidental fall that oc-
curred on December 11, 2018. She is sur-

on January 8, 2019. Linda was the beloved
wife of Howard Center for 56 years. Loving

ter of Lafayette Hill, PA. Sister of Stephen
(Joan) Brodsky, and brother-in-law of

Day School, and was a career counselor at

Jerome “Jerry” Cohn, 95, of Philadelphia
passed away on January 24th. Survived by
the love of his life for over 69 years, Ruth
(née Cohen), his children Bruce (Fayne) and
Gary (Marcy), his grandchildren, Rachel
(Cory), Sheara, Dara, and Julie (Andrew), and
great-grandchildren Nathan and Emily. Jerry
was preceded in death by his parents, Emma
and Max, and his siblings Charlie, Esther,
Janice, Dorothy, and Bernie. Jerry served our
country as a cryptographer in WWII. A gradu-
ate of Wharton Business School, he worked
as an office manager, and later as a Chief Fin-
ancial Officer. Throughout his long retire-
ment, Jerry enjoyed traveling the world with
Ruth and cruising with his family. He showed
his passion for learning by continuing his
education by auditing college courses with
Ruth for 15 years as a senior citizen. His
most important treasure in life was time
spent with his entire family. Contributions in
