JOSEPH LEVINE and SONS
Jack J. Dash, former Sales Manager at
WHAT/WWDB radio in Philadelphia, passed
away on Sunday Dec. 18 at the age of 95, at
his home in Herzliya, Israel. Jack was born
and raised in Philadelphia, graduated from
Central High (179 class) and Temple, and
was married for 50 years to Rhoda, formerly
Hodes, who passed away in 1998. He was
liked and respected by all for his integrity,
easy-going nature, and sense of humor. In
1987 Jack and Rhoda moved to Israel to be
close to their children and grandchildren.

Jack is survived by his two children, David
and Rena, seven grandchildren, and 18 great-
grandchildren, all living in Israel, and by
brother Bernie Dash in Florida.

Wife of the late Samuel Elias. Mother of Jef-
frey and Kenneth Elias. Grandmother of
Stephanie Elias. She left this world at the age
of 88. Eleanor was born and raised in North
Philadelphia. She had exceptional talent in
music. She was taken as a scholarship stu-
dent at Settlement Music School at age 6. In
1943 she made her debut on the piano at The
Philadelphia Academy of Music as a young
and up and coming talent on the piano. Her
love of music and the arts continued
throughout her life. In the 1970’s she be-
came a member of the Board of Directors for
what was then known as PMA, Philadelphia
Music Academy on Broad Street. She was
very active in the world of classical music
and in 1970’s she housed 3 gifted young Is-
raeli classical musicians, Yigal, Chava and Ar-
iella – whom she regarded as her own chil-
dren. In later years she helped other aspiring
young classical musicians from Eastern
Europe get their start in the United States in

Edwin H. Bowers, son of Richard and Isa-

away Sunday, December 18, 2016. A native

for the past eleven years. Edwin graduated
from Penn Charter, attended Oberlin College,
and was a Green Beret in the Army. His ca-
reer took him from banking to healthcare
data processing, where he was one of the pi-

Evelyn Holtz, 93, of Allentown, died on
Thursday, January 5, 2017 at St. Luke’s Hos-
pice House in Bethlehem. Her husband, Stan-
ley E. Holtz died on December 9, 2005. Born
in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the
late Isaac and Leah (Superstein) Althausen.

She graduated from Temple University with a
Bachelor’s degree in English. Evelyn enjoyed
reading, playing golf and cheering on her be-
loved Phillies. She was a member of Temple

KELEM Gloria Kelem, 91, passed away peacefully on
Monday, December 26, 2016 at her resid-
ence at Lions Gate Continuing Care Retire-
ment Community in Voorhees, New Jersey.

She was born on May 28, 1925 in Phil-
adelphia, PA, and was the daughter of Morris
and Esther Miller (deceased). On January
15, 1950 she married Harry Kelem, from the
well-known Kelem’s Delicatessen family.

They were happily married for 57 years until
his death in 2007. She was a successful
Kosher Caterer in the Philadelphia region
from 1960 until the mid- 1970’s. In her re-
tirement, she lived in Margate, New Jersey
where she enjoyed knitting, getting together
with her friends, going to Florida in the
winter, and spending time with her children.

She is survived by her three children, Merrill
Kelem, Shelley Kelem and Felice Kelem. She
was preceded in death by her brother Harry
Miller. Graveside services were held on
Thursday, December 29 at Rodef Sholom
Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made

Daniel Kursman passed away on December
29,2016. He was a resident at the Wayne
Center. Beloved husband of the late Eleanor
Kursman. Devoted father of Benjamin Kurs-

Richard Kursman(Gabriela). Loving grand-
father of Jared, Nick, Alex, Carly, Isabella,
Daniel and Gabriella. Loving great grandfath-
er of Cooper. Mr. Kursman was the former
founder and President/CEO/Chairman of the
Board of Jetronic Industries, Inc, a publicly
traded industrial/retail conglomerate based in
Philadelphia with operations all over the
country as well as overseas. He was an avid
boater and fisherman, captaining the "Ray
Jeff". In the past, active in many charities in-
cluding Tay-Sachs and Allied Diseases of
Philadelphia. Former President of the Bala
Cynwyd Civic Association as well as board
member of the Philadelphia/ Metropolitan Os-
teopathic Hospital. Member of the Bala Coun-
try Club and active in Temple Adath Israel
and Ben Gurion University of the Negev.

Dr. Marial Manstein
LEVITT Harriette Voice Levitt, a native Philadelphian,
died on Saturday, December 17, 2016, in the
Dallas suburb of Wylie, Texas, at age 95.

Known for her vibrant personality, kindness,
generosity, warm smile and sense of humor,
Harriette moved from Baltimore, Maryland to
Texas in August 2016 to be close to her
daughter, Ellen Beth Levitt and son-in-law,
Jackson Whitt, who had moved there re-
cently. Harriette grew up in Philadelphia, the
daughter of Albert and Elizabeth Voice. In her
early 20s, she worked at Philadelphia radio
station WIP, and after World War II, she
worked at Philadelphia’s first TV station. She
married Samuel J. Levitt, M.D., in 1948 and
was a devoted wife, mother to Ellen Beth, and
caregiver to her mother Elizabeth in her later
years. The Levitt family belonged to Congreg-
ation Rodeph Shalom for many years. Dr.

Levitt died in 1972 and Harriette later moved
to Baltimore to live closer to her daughter
and son-in-law. She volunteered at Maryland
Public Television and the Arthritis Founda-
tion. Harriette was a resident of a senior cit-
izen community, Weinberg Village in Owings
Mills, Maryland for 11 years. There, she
made many friends and participated in sever-
al classes and activities. Her favorite was the
creative writing class. Inspired by her teach-
er, Kathryn Pettus, she wrote a collection of
poems about growing older, her love of life,
and healthy living. She was well-known as
“The Old Timer who is a Rhymer.” Her
poems are a gift that her daughter will treas-
ure forever. In addition to her daughter and
son-in-law, she is survived by her brother,
Stanley Voice, of Boca Raton, Florida, nieces
Bonnie Voice and Kelly Voice; nephews Jef-
frey Voice, Allan Goodman, Richard Levitt,
Jerry Levitt, and Harvey Levitt; and sister-in-
law Nettie Weiss. A memorial gathering will
be held on Sunday, January 22, at 1 p.m. at
Weinberg Village I, 3420 Associated Way in
Owings Mills, Maryland 21117. Donations in
honor of Harriette may be made to CHAI-
Weinberg Village, to support the enrichment
activities for seniors living there. Donations
may also be made to the University of Mary-
land Medical Center in Baltimore.

LEVY Alfred G. Levy, age 89, died on January 4,
2017. He was a retired insurance salesman
who resided in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Husband of the late Libby (nee Laiken); fath-
er of Sheryl LaRocco; brother of Melvin
(Debbie) Levy; and grandfather of Morganne
and Jordan. Contributions in his memory

MILLER Helen Joyce Miller (nee Codell), from
Pennsylvania and Florida, passed away on
Dec. 25, 2016. Helen is predeceased by her

alemski) Codell. She is survived by her lov-
ing husband Stephen A. Miller, daughter
Randi Burd, son Kenneth Miller, son-in-law
William Burd, and daughter-in-law Mary
Miller; 3 grandchildren: Michele Forsyth,
Jonathan Burd, and Francesca Miller; 4 great-

Helen was a selfless, caring, and loving wife.

She and Steve met when Helen was 13 and
he was 16. They married when Helen was 17,
and shared 58 wonderful years of marriage
together. Their loyalty never wavered and
their love only multiplied. Helen was a terrific
and giving mother, grandmother, and great-
grandmother. Her family was the love of her
life, and the most important thing to her. She
would have reached up to the sky and given
them the moon and stars. She will be missed
and her memory cherished.

Jay D. Moss, age 87, died on December 19,
2016. He was a retired stock broker who
