She was a successful Kosher Caterer in the Philadelphia region from 1960 until the mid- 1970’s. In her re- tirement, she lived in Margate, New Jersey where she enjoyed knitting, getting together with her friends, going to Florida in the winter, and spending time with her children. Known for her vibrant personality, kindness, generosity, warm smile and sense of humor, Harriette moved from Baltimore, Maryland to Texas in August 2016 to be close to her daughter, Ellen Beth Levitt and son-in-law, Jackson Whitt, who had moved there re- cently. Harriette grew up in Philadelphia, the daughter of Albert and Elizabeth Voice. In her early 20s, she worked at Philadelphia radio station WIP, and after World War II, she worked at Philadelphia’s first TV station. She married Samuel J. Levitt, M.D., in 1948 and was a devoted wife, mother to Ellen Beth, and caregiver to her mother Elizabeth in her later years. The Levitt family belonged to Congreg- ation Rodeph Shalom for many years. Dr. Levitt died in 1972 and Harriette later moved to Baltimore to live closer to her daughter and son-in-law. She volunteered at Maryland Public Television and the Arthritis Founda- tion. Harriette was a resident of a senior cit- izen community, Weinberg Village in Owings Mills, Maryland for 11 years. There, she made many friends and participated in sever- al classes and activities. Her favorite was the creative writing class. Inspired by her teach- er, Kathryn Pettus, she wrote a collection of poems about growing older, her love of life, and healthy living. She was well-known as “The Old Timer who is a Rhymer.” Her poems are a gift that her daughter will treas- ure forever. In addition to her daughter and son-in-law, she is survived by her brother, Stanley Voice, of Boca Raton, Florida, nieces Bonnie Voice and Kelly Voice; nephews Jef- frey Voice, Allan Goodman, Richard Levitt, Jerry Levitt, and Harvey Levitt; and sister-in- law Nettie Weiss. A memorial gathering will be held on Sunday, January 22, at 1 p.m. at Weinberg Village I, 3420 Associated Way in Owings Mills, Maryland 21117. GODLSTEINS’ ROSENBERG’S RAPHAEL-SACKS TOMKIN Bernard Tomkin, an educator in the Phil- adelphia school system and an active mem- ber of the Democratic Party, died December 21st in Abington, Pennsylvania. He was 95. Mr. Tomkin started his career as a social studies teacher at Northeast High School and other school district schools in Philadelphia. He was also an adjunct professor at Penn State and Temple Universities. He later served as Vice-Principal at Roxborough High School in Philadelphia for 14 years. Mr. Tomkin was elected and served as the treas- urer of the Montgomery County Democratic Party for a number of years. He was a two - time Democratic Party nominee for Congress to represent the 13th Congressional District of Pennsylvania. His wife Katherine (Bigel- man) Tomkin of 41 years, passed away in 2007. He is survived by one brother, Irvin Tomkin of Oreland, Pennsylvania, and many nieces, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews. He is survived by wife, Sondra . Mr. Voluck was the son of the late Philip and Elizabeth Voluck, and the brother of the late Mitzi. Mr. Voluck was a loving father, grandfather, and great grand- father, and is survived by his son Philip Ritter Voluck and wife Stephanie (née Simkins), daughter Lisa Jurick and husband, Jeffrey Jurick, grandson the late Andrew Ritter Voluck, grandson Jonathan Voluck, grand- daughter Alixandra Bortnick and husband Paul Bortnick, granddaughter Brittany Jurick and fiancé Adam Kazinec and great grand- daughter Presley Ritter Bortnick. Allan and Sandy met at the Boca Raton Resort 64 years ago while vacationing separately with friends. Mr. Voluck was a United States Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He Attended North Carolina State University and St. Joseph's College. Mr. Voluck was also the Owner of United Container Corporation, a manufacturer of corrugated boxes located in Philadelphia. A Past President of Green Val- ley Country Club, he was always active in various philanthropic endeavors, including Past President Eagles of Fly for Leukemia and many years as a dedicated fund raiser with his wife Sondra for The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and The Ronald McDonald House. The Volucks were honored by the State of Israel Bonds in 1983. An avid golfer and tennis player, Mr Voluck will be dearly missed by his many friends.
