RAPHAEL-SACKS Our beloved father, Wayne R. Spielman,
passed on January 28, 2020. He was nearly
90. Until then, he shared a 67 year long love
affair with his wife and our mother, Meta, that
began on their first date. Theirs was the kind
of love and commitment that you read about
in the great books and see in the great
movies. Our mother survives him, and con-
tinues to love him and cherish his memory;
she deeply feels his loss. We do too. Dad
was a wonderful and truly remarkable man to
us, his daughter and son, and to his grand-
children, other family members, friends, ac-
quaintances and business associates. Those
of us who survive him remember his good-
ness. We were very fortunate to have a fath-
er who took on the financial and emotional
responsibility of raising us. He taught us that
our education was very important and made
sure we learned the lessons to support our
individual life choices. We and our children
will get together and share stories. Life will
continue, however, today is less joyful for all
of us. We miss you Dad and thank you for
being you. Love and hugs always…Wayne R.
Spielman D.O.B. 3/11/1930. Dad grew up in
Philadelphia, PA, and graduated from Penn
State University. He then worked in the print-
ing business, first with his father, Jack C.
Spielman, then at W.R. Spielman & Asso-
ciates. He also served in the US Army Re-
serves. He loved being with our Mother and
us, and enjoyed golf, bridge and helping oth-
ers. Survived by his wife, Meta Coane Spiel-
man D.O.B 2/19/1931. Graduate, University
of Pennsylvania. His children and grandchil-
dren: daughter, Ellen Spielman (married to
Michael Walton) and their sons, Zachary and
Justin Walton, and son, Lee Spielman (mar-
ried to Sheryl Glassman Spielman) and their
daughter, Stephanie Spielman. If you would
like to do so, please send donations in his
blessed memory to The Harry Chapin Food

www.JewishExponent.com Judaism isn’t just what we believe, or the prayers
we recite or the laws we observe. It’s also about
the way we live. How we interact with others.
The values we practice. The customs and traditions
we embrace and pass down, from one generation
to the next.

on to graduate from Temple University.
There, she met her husband of 70 years,

Greenberg), Justin (Erin Jarrell) Tracton, Iain

ZURITZKY DEATH NOTICES
ZURITSKY Renée Marlene Zuritsky, 76, died peacefully
at home in Center City, surrounded by her
family, on Monday, February 10, 2020. The
cause was endometrial cancer. Born Renée
Stern, the native Philadelphian spent her
childhood in Germantown, the middle of
three daughters to Maurice and Goldie Stern,
who are deceased. Her sisters, Lydia Rubin
of Jenkintown, and Hedy Frisch of Toronto,
survive her. Renée graduated from Chelten-
ham High School (’61), and earned a BA from
the University of Pennsylvania (’68). While on
a trip to Israel with her father in 1960, she
befriended an American couple who would
become her in-laws -- Herman and Lee Zurit-
sky, parents of Joseph Zuritsky. The couple
wed in 1963, and had three children: Robert
(married to Caroline Zuritsky), Anna (mar-
ried to Michael Boni) and Elisa (married to
Jordan Barowitz). Their 56-year marriage
welcomed nine grandchildren: Gabriel,
Megan, and Ethan Boni; Haley, Harrison,
Emma, and Hannah Zuritsky; and Phoebe and
Declan Barowitz. Renée was known for her
high cheekbones and understated beauty.
She was an avid patron of Philadelphia art
and cultural institutions: the Orchestra, the
Walnut Street Theater, the Art Museum, the
Jewish Film Festival. Whenever possible, she
traveled to New York City to take in Broad-
way shows, art exhibits, and some shopping.
She was a lover of good food, particularly
fresh fruit and decadent desserts. As a
couple, Renée and Joe traveled extensively,
and gave generously to countless organiza-
tions and philanthropic causes. She kept
friends from all chapters of her life, yet never
stopped finding new ones to add. She was
disarming, sincere, straightforward. Older
people were especially appealing to Renee,
but it’s also true that she attracted younger
friends, who looked to her as a mentor.
Renée was passionate about justice and
equality. Above all else, Renée treasured and
nurtured her family. She will be missed im-
measurably. In lieu of flowers, the family
asks that donations in her name be made to
the Jewish Family and Children’s Service, Na-
tional Museum of American Jewish History,
or Mural Arts Philadelphia. Services were
held at Har Zion Temple in Penn Valley, PA,
Interment at West Laurel Hill Cemetery. Ar-
rangements by West Laurel Hill Funeral
Home, Inc.
