SHERMAN SOLTOFF
Anne Sherman (née Chana Cerebernik), wife
of the late Archie Sherman, passed peace-
fully on January 27, 2018. Her life began in
Kiev in 1912, and she grew up in Yurovitchi
with her grandparents until the pogroms be-
came too threatening. With her mother, Esth-
er, and sister, Bess, she escaped to freedom
in Canada to join her father, Nathan. Annie
met Archie during a trip to Philadelphia and
married him on Valentine’s Day in 1941.In
Philadelphia, her family grew to include chil-
dren Esther Sherman Tolan (Elliott), Dr. Willi-
am Sherman (Gail) and Karen Sherman
(Frank Munger). Years later, Annie became
grandma to Meredith Tolan (Stéphane Di-
champ), Jessica Tolan, Alexander Sherman-
song (Candace) Hara Perkins (James) and
great grandma to Ariel,Salomé,
Scheherazade, Octavian and Judd. Annie was
full of beauty, light, wisdom, perseverance,
hope, strength, faith, energy, tenderness,
laughter and love. She was an inspiration to
her friends and family. Relatives and friends
were invited to graveside services Tuesday
January 30, 1:00pm at Har Jehuda Cemetery.

SIMON Lawrence S. Simon, February 3, 2018 of Bryn
Mawr, Pa. Beloved husband of Gail (nee
Schnyder). Devoted father of Simona (Anto-
nios) Hadjigeorgalis, Scott Simon and
Michelle Marks. Cherished brother of Lynn
(Mark) Albala and Lisa Simon (Esther Wald-
man). Proud grandfather of Max, Celia, Ruka
and Bodhi. Relatives and friends were invited

form Temple (410 Montgomery Ave, Wyn-

SLUTSKY Ruth Slutsky (nee Kopew), age 83, died on
January 21, 2018. She resided in Willow
Grove, Pennsylvania. Wife of the late Sidney;
mother of Robert (Jill Cohen), Mark and the
late Steven; sister of Melvin (and the late
Marilyn) Kopew and Oscar (Eileen) Kopew;
and grandmother of Jordan and Andrew.

RAPHAEL-SACKS SNYDERMAN
Vella Snyderman (nee Steinberg) passed
away peacefully on January 21, 2018, at age
95. She resided in Philadelphia, PA. The
daughter of the late Anna and David Stein-
berg, she was predeceased by her husband
Theodore, her son Gary, and her brother
Jack. She is survived by her sister Ruth, her
daughter Deborah (Barry), and her grand-
daughter Sarah. Vella will be remembered for
her kindness and resilience. She protested
for civil rights in the 1960’s and earned her
college degree in the 1970’s. She demon-
strated a gentle strength of character

Beloved husband and soul mate to Sandy
(Linsky) for 60 yrs. Loving and proud father

Danielle Soltoff, Emma Rose and Molly
Lauren Shapiro. Paul had a successful career
of over 50 yrs. in the men's clothing busi-
ness, he enjoyed cruises with Sandy, movies,
dining out and "Law and Order". Most of all
he was happiest surrounded by his beautiful
loving family. He will be mourned and missed

STEIN Harriet (nee Wohl) Stein passed from this
world at the age of 84, on January 16, 2018,
in Scottsdale AZ. Born in Philadelphia on
January 23, 1933, to Meyer and Rachel Wohl,
Harriet survived a sister, Lenore. Harriet lived
in Philadelphia and its suburbs until retiring
to Scottsdale, AZ in 2002. A graduate of
Temple University, Harriet spent her career
as a much-loved elementary schoolteacher in
the Philadelphia area. The hundreds of chil-
dren who entered her classroom, many of
whom lived amidst drugs and violence in the
worst parts of the city, found a safe, welcom-
ing environment where, due to her loving
care, they thrived. Harriet was also the type
of person who made best friends wherever
she went. Her generosity, warmth, and kind-
ness left an indelible mark on the world. Har-
riet is survived in love by her husband of 59
years, Victor Stein; two children, Raychel and
Jack (Cynthia) Stein; three grandchildren,
Jake, Nichole, and Karl Jr.; and five great-
grandchildren, Cash, Banyan, Liv, Karl III,
and Daniel. Harriet adored children, animals,
and education. In lieu of flowers, the family
requests a donation to an organization of
your choice that supports one of those

TANNENBAUM Donald Tannenbaum O.D., 92, died Friday,
February 2, 2018. Donald was a loving hus-
band to the deceased, Annette Tannenbaum.

Wonderful brother to the deceased, Gerald
Tannenbaum and devoted son to the de-
ceased parents, Emanuel and Belle Tannen-
baum from Scranton Pa. Survived by daugh-
ters: Lynn Bentley, Carol Augenblick [David],
and Debra Alvanitakis [John]; Grandchildren:
Bryan Bentley [Cailin], Gregory Augenblick
[Kimberly], Jonathan Augenblick, and Abby
Calabrese [Joseph]. Donald was an Optomet-
rist for almost 50 years at Broad and Lom-
bard St in Philadelphia, where he served the
community with love and respect. He de-
voted his life to taking care of his family.

Donald was passionate about Jazz, was a vo-
racious reader of history, and had a wonder-
ful group of friends with whom he socialized
with for over 40 years. He was a true athlete
throughout his entire life. He started running
before it was popular, took up bike riding
when he was 70, and exercised ever day of
his life. He will forever be remembered for his
kindness and sensitivity for others, and lov-
ing devotion to his family. Donations can be
made in his name to the Sunday Breakfast
Rescue Mission in Philadelphia and South-
ern Poverty Law Center. Funeral was at West
Laurel Hill Cemetery on Sunday February 4 th ,
