LEOPOLD-STARER Esther Leopold Starer (nee Bender), of
Lantana, FL, died at age 98, on July 20, 2019,
in West Palm Beach, FL. The youngest of four
siblings, she was born on February 18, 1921,
in Philadelphia, PA. She graduated with a de-
gree in business from Temple University at
the age of 70. She was predeceased by two
husbands, Herbert Leopold and Lee Starer,
her brothers, Morris and IB Bender, and her
sister, Ruth Sacks. Her parents were Boris
Bender and Anna Futeransky. She is survived
by three sons, Dr. Norman (Bea), Dr. Mi-
chael (Judy) and Perry (Sue), 9 grandchil-
dren and 10 great-grandchildren. Memorial
contributions may be made to a charity of

died on July 30, 2019. He is survived by his
loving wife of 40 years, Margie, his children
Lisa Snyder (Ira), Brian Linder (Marissa),
Joanna Linder, his grandchildren Jeremy and
Sam Snyder, Mia and Cades Linder, and sis-
ter Susan Linder. Peter enjoyed a long and
successful career. Linder is past treasurer
and chairman of the finance committee of the
board of directors of Ben Franklin Techno-
logy Partners of Southeastern Pennsylvania.
He was chairman emeritus of the Mid-At-
lantic Angel Group Fund and served as the
chairman of LORE, one of the oldest angel in-
vestment groups in the nation, and chair of
the Angel Capital Education Foundation. He
was a member of the Valuation Committee of
Edison Venture Fund and of the board of dir-
ectors of Molecular Detection Inc. Linder was
a founder of ETHIX, a managed-care com-
pany operating HMOs and PPOs in 13 states.
He also founded American Interactive, a com-
pany specializing in hospital laboratory data
processing systems. He has been a member
of the board of governing trustees of The
Jackson Laboratory. Peter was Entrepreneur-
in-Residence at Muhlenberg College, teach-
ing courses in venture capital and entrepren-
eurship on campus. In 2013 he was named
to the newly created post of Entrepreneur-in-
Residence within the office of the Vice Pres-
ident for Research at Penn State which was
part of an ongoing effort to invigorate entre-
preneurship and technology transfer at the
University. Most recently, he served as Chair-
man of the Board for the Penn State Re-
search Foundation, a nonprofit organization
comprised of University faculty, alumni,
trustees and industry representatives which
purpose is to promote patenting and com-
mercial applications for Penn State’s scientif-
ic and technical research. As an avid boater
for 45 years, Peter loved spending his sum-
mers on the family boat “Main Course” in
Surry, Maine where he was very active at
KYC yacht club (Blue Hill, ME), spending
more than a decade as the club treasurer.
Peter was an enthusiastic Penn State football
fan. He loved to travel the world, had a pas-
sion for genealogy, was always a student of
history and loved gospel music. Above all he
loved time spent with his family. Instead of

August 21, 2019. Wife of Al Kulman for 65

Dr. Leonardo Magran, passed peacefully at
his home in the company of his family on Au-
gust 18, 2019. A respected Child Psychiatrist
in the Philadelphia area for over 50 years. Be-
loved husband of the late Betty. Devoted fath-
er of Irene Magran and Claudia (Craig) Ka-
men. Loving grandfather of Leah Michelle,
Maia Rachel, and Amanda Stephanie. Funeral

Barbara Miller (nee Block), 72, of Colmar,
passed away on August 3, 2019 at her home,
surrounded by family. Barbara was born in
Philadelphia, daughter of the late Byron and
Helen Block. She graduated from the Uni-
versity of Pittsburgh with a BA in secondary
education. After college she became a sales
engineer at IBM, then worked at the family
business, Block Distributors, as an office
manager. While raising their family, she and
her husband were owners/operators of Party
Time USA. She then worked for Builders
Prime as a bookkeeper. Barbara was a de-
voted member of Tiferet Bet Israel in Blue
Bell, PA, serving as president of the congreg-
ation and president of the Women’s League.
She tutored many b’nai mitzvot students and
she was an active member of the choir. Bar-
bara also enjoyed being a gabbai and helping
out in the TBI kitchen. Barbara loved cooking,
baking, and hosting large family dinners. She
was an avid Philly sports fan, she enjoyed
going on cruises, and reading a good book in
the sun. Barbara is survived by her loving
husband of 47 years, Robert; and her three
children, Jennifer Toomey, Jordan (Elise),
and Corey (Maggy). She will be missed by
her eight grandchildren: Evan, Marshall, Lily,
Hannah, Audrey, Pearl, Otis, and Jacob. She
is also survived by her brother Richard and a
large extended family. In lieu of flowers, me-

Eleanor Medoff (nee Bachman) on July 31,
2019. Survived by 2 children, 5 grandchil-
dren, 12 great- grandchildren and 9 grand
puppies. She lived a very full life and worked
tirelessly with the Jewish War Veterans for
many years, and most of that time as an of-
ficer of the National Organization. Eleanor
spent 40 years in Florida and most of these
years would find her holding office in her
Condo Association or Homeowners Associ-
ation or both. She was a loving Mother to
Judy and Arlene and a loving wife to Richard.
She loved playing cards with her cronies
once a week. Eleanor was well respected by
