Douglas Dworkin, MD, Brad Dworkin MD,
and the late Bruce Dworkin. Grandmother of
Jonathan Dworkin MD, Carl D’Apolito Dwor-
kin, Sara D’Apolito Dworkin DDS, Stephanie
Dworkin, and Julie Dworkin. Great Grand-
mother of Benjamin Dworkin and Isaac Dwor-
kin. She was a graduate of Temple University.

She taught and was a college counselor for
many years in the Philadelphia Public School
System. Graveside services were held
Sunday, July 29 th at 11:00 AM at Montefiore
Cemetary (Jenkintown, PA). Contributions

Edward M. Ellis, born April 21, 1948, passed
away on May 4th 2018, from diabetes and
heart disease. He was a very hard working
father, he worked for the city of Philadelphia.

He was predeceased by my mother who
passed in September of 2000, so my father
had to do his best to raise his only daughter
on his own, the best way he could. He loved
his animals more than people most of the
time. He's survived by his daughter Erica,
grandsons, George & William and grand-
daughter Lillian, and his older brother Dr. Jay

FREEMAN Elaine Harris Freeman, 83, of Philadelphia, a
public relations specialist and educator, died
Wednesday, August 15, at home. Elaine Free-
man grew up in Brooklyn, Minneapolis, and
the Philadelphia area. She earned a bachel-
ors degree in communications from Temple
University and a master’s degree in English
as a Second Language from West Chester
University. Elaine joined the staff of WHYY
Public Television in 1955, shortly after its
founding. She was committed to women’s
rights and civil rights, and the importance of
the arts in public schools and libraries. She
led creative dramatics programs for children
in Philadelphia before moving to Chester
County, where she worked in public relations
for the Devereux Foundation and founded her
own PR company, Precise Communications.

In the latter part of her career, she earned her
master’s degree in English as a Second Lan-
guage and taught ESL classes at Drexel Uni-
versity, in regional hotels, and in Gredos,
Spain. A lifelong feminist, she was active in
the League of Women Voters and presented
lectures on women’s issues, participating in
the 1995 Beijing UN–World Conference on
Women. Elaine was a passionate traveler; she
was a member of Hope Afloat Dragon Boat
team for breast cancer survivors; she parti-
cipated in multiple book groups, and was at
work on a biography of Martha Freud. She
was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Leo C.

Freeman, and is survived by her sister Lila
Levin of Haverford, PA, Robert Harris of Sac-
ramento; her children, Jan Freeman of Ash-
field, Massachusetts, Nancy Freeman-Carroll
of New York City, Carla Freeman of Atlanta,
Eric Freeman of Madrid, Spain, and five
grandchildren, Isabel, Alice, Claudia, Ben-
jamin, and Joseph. Donations in her honor

GOLD Roni Gold (nee Dorf), passed away on July
22, 2018. Beloved wife of the late Jackie
Gold. She was much loved by her daughter
Randi Weiss (Craig) and son Neil Gold
(Judy). Roni was cherished by her grandchil-
dren Morgan Sydnee and Tyler Emily. De-
voted sister of Albert Dorf (Rhona). Adored
by her niece Jami Dorf and nephew Andrew

would surely not forget her beautiful smile,
and loving and caring personality.Wherever
she went she would make friends with every-
one. Charna, grew up in Logan, daughter of
Harry and Mary,youngest sister to Belle and
Ann.It was while attending Bernie Middle
School and reading Bible at assembly one
day she caught the eye of 16 year old Ed. He
was sitting in the assembly and remarked to
the kid next to him that he was going to
marry that girl, never meeting her before. He
then courted her and they wed in Sept
1948,this September would have been their
70th wedding anniversary. They lived in Chel-
tenham and raised 3 sons; Jeffrey,Harris
(Carol) and. Mitchell. Charna always made
her family her biggest priority beside her love
for Ed. She is also survived by 5 grandchil-
dren, Chad, Todd, Dana, Amanda and Jes-
sica and 3 Great-grandchildren, Austin,Sage
and Brayden.She loved going to Atlantic City
with Ed,and lived at the Ocean Club. They
loved the boardwalk and Casino.She also was
a Master bridge player and loved Maj
Jong.She passed away on August 9th at
home after a battle with breast cancer. Please

HIRSCH The family is saddened to announce the
passing of Roberta Hirsch (nee Kopp) on Au-
gust 8, 2018. Roberta was the deeply be-
loved wife of William J. "Bill" Hirsch to whom
she was married for 63 years. Roberta was
an incredibly loving mother (mother-in-law)
to Norma (Gary) Mann, Matthew (Cindy)
Hirsch and Robin (Chris) Thieme, and sister
to Leslie Trencher and Renee Matilsky (of
blessed memory). Roberta was a devoted
and car-ing grandmother to Alex, Ethan,
Sophia, Elysia, Andrew, Ashley and Julian.

From their pre-school years to their college
graduations and beyond, Grandma rarely
missed a play, recital, sporting match,
presentation, competition or other special
event. Roberta traveled the world with Bill,
from Mexico, Ecuador and the Galapagos, to
Russia, Croatia, Corsica and beyond. She
lived life to the fullest, and regularly attended
concerts, the theater, the opera, and the
movies. She was a great reader and to some
a fashionista. She danced, she dined, she en-
tertained, all done with great humor. She
hosted family for Thanksgiving, Jewish holi-
days, anniversaries and birthdays. She
looked forward to any opportunity to celeb-
rate with friends or family. Roberta was a
proud graduate of Erasmus Hall High School
and Brooklyn College. When her children
were in their teens, Roberta went back to
school and earned a Master's Degree in Spe-
cial Education from Arcadia University. She
served for many years as an educator, work-
ing with children with special needs and their
teachers. She was a long-time resident of
Wayne and a recent resident of The Quad-
rangle, Haverford, Pennsylvania. Roberta was
a positive, optimistic and determined indi-
vidual in all aspects of her life, including the
last few years of her life. Contributions in her
