GOLDSTEINS' ROSENBERG'S RAPHAEL-SACKS Judith Abrams Buch, 65, passed away Sunday, August 12, 2018. Born in Trenton, NJ, to Rose Ann and Harry Abrams, she has one brother, Jeffrey Abrams. Although raised in Trenton, Judi graduated from Pennsbury High School. She obtained a Master of So- cial Work from Temple University and taught in the university’s Criminal Justice program in the early 1990s. Her professional career was spent primarily at the Bucks County Adult Probation and Parole Department in jobs that she loved-as a Parole Officer for 18 years and a Supervisor for seven years. She was the Chief Shop Steward in the Court unit for years, which may surprise some people. Judi’s most important focus was on her chil- dren and left her first job to raise Jonathan and Benjamin, her most beloved sons. They traveled to many parts of the world, even when Jon and Ben were adults. Her sons were devoted to their mother and showed it regularly by actions and words. Ben’s wife, Larissa, was very supportive. When grand- sons Asher and Abram Buch were born, Judi’s heart swelled. She cooked and cared for them as often as possible. A past mem- ber of Adath Israel Congregation and Con- gregation Beth El, Judi was most recently a member of Shir Ami in Newtown, PA. A life member of Hadassah, she was also a mem- ber of Shomrim of Philadelphia and the Delaware Valley and served as its first female president. She was a member of many pro- fessional Social Work and Criminal Justice organizations, over the years. The Mah Jongg group that Judi was a part of for ten+ years was very special to her. When Judi was dia- gnosed with breast cancer, she became in- volved with Bucks County Breast Friends and MetaFriends (sponsored by the Healing Con- sciousness Foundation) which were safe places to get support and nurturing. The Machestic Dragons, a New Jersey dragon boat team for breast cancer survivors that Judi joined, brought excitement and more support to her. Special recognition to Nancy Johnson, a first cousin who was more like a sister to Judi, and Cathy Buch, who stood with her in all difficult times. Dr. Philip Kivitz, her maternal uncle, was always important to Judi. There are many cousins and friends- you know who you are-who enhanced Judi’s life so much. Even Judi’s “ex-family” re- mained important in her life. A funeral ser- vice was held Sunday 11am, August 19 at Shir Ami, 101 Richboro Road, Newtown, PA. Interment will be private. Memorial contribu- tions may be made to the Abrams Hebrew Academy, Shir Ami, Metavivor or the Healing Consciousness Foundation. Rita concluded, “I have been a truly for- tunate person in every way. I have enjoyed a good life, in excellent physical and mental health and have had and seen so much. Her curiosity, pas- sion and ceaseless joy for learning and ex- ploring set an example for the many lives she touched. She continued to tutor students, travel and voraciously read until recent years. Even in her last years, she found pleasure in life and never stopped making a deep impact on these around her. She will be deeply missed by her family and her friends. Love always and forever, Your Loving Family and Friends YIASKI WABER Alfred Waber 89, Builder and family man. A retired real estate builder who lived in Center City, Phila., died peacefully on Friday, July 27, 2018, of natural causes. Mr. Waber grew up in the Wynnefield section of West Phila. and was a graduate of Overbrook High School and the Wharton School of the Univer-sity of Pennsylvania. In 1955, Mr. Waber became interested in home building and began building homes and apartments in the Oak Lane and Northeast sections of Phila. In 1977, he renovated a historic factory at 23rd and Arch Streets and converted the property into a residential apartment building. Mr. Waber continued to manage that build- ing, the Westminster Arch Apartments, up until a few years ago. But Mr. Waber's greatest accomplishment was his love of his family and friends, immedi-ate and extended. Mr. Waber was the son of Russian and East- ern European Jewish immigrants and was raised as part of an extremely close-knit fam- ily, all of whom lived within blocks of each other in Wynne-field. Mr. Waber stayed very close to that extended family throughout his life and, to-gether with his beloved wife of 53 years, June Waber, passed that love and commitment to family down to the next gen- era-tion. "My father was an old-fashioned gentleman. He was soft-spoken, a wonderful listener, and deeply committed to his family and close friends. His greatest joy in life was his love for my mother, June, and his be- loved family, particularly his two grand- daughters, Lily Ann and Katie," said his daughter, Lizabeth Raynes. Mr. Waber had an amazing passion for the Phillies and was a life-long Phillies fan. He either listened to the radio or watched on television almost every Phillies game for more than 80 years.
