JOSEPH LEVINE and SONS
TUCKER Lucy Tucker, of Philadelphia, died peacefully
at home on April 12. At her side were her
children and their spouses, Amy Tucker and
Stephen Tanzer, Jeff Tucker and Miriam
Kogan Tucker, who cannot imagine a world
without her. Her son Steven and her hus-
band of 67 years, Gil, predeceased her. Once
Lucy gave her love, it was yours to
keep—she never quit on a friend and re-
mained fiercely partisan whether you were
family, or Hillary Clinton, or the Yankees in a
lean year. Among the personal effects left on
her bedside table were tokens of an abiding
engagement with the world that did not flag
with age; these included a bag of treats for
the family dog and two small notebooks. In
one notebook she kept a running list of the
books on tape, both fiction and nonfiction,
she consumed at an astonishing clip since
losing her eyesight in recent years. In the
other notebook she kept track of the many
and varied charities to which she contributed
annually: in 2016 these numbered 28 and
ranged from The Smile Train to the
Pennsylvania SPCA to Women for Women In-
ternational. Smart, funny, sympathetic, Lucy
lived to be of service to others. She could
identify obscure character actors of the
1930s and ‘40s by their voices alone. She
knew every Sinatra arrangement by heart, for
she had heard them in person. She played a
respectable game of tennis into her 80s. She
joyfully disbursed all her earthly goods but
retained her witty, indomitable spirit to the
last, asking her nurse on the day before her
death at age 93, “What is the estimated time
of departure?”

and was past president of the Northern

Warminster when Warminster General Hos-
pital first opened in 1974. Sheldon was Chief
of Podiatric Surgery at both Warminster and
Albert Einstein Medical Center (Philadelphia).

He also had an office at St. Mary Hospital in
Langhorne. While in practice, he appeared of-
ten on the Captain Noah Show to talk about
children's feet. He established a Miss Foot
Health Week program and served as Presid-
ent of the Philadelphia County Podiatry Soci-
ety. A permanent eye injury he received while
playing basketball forced him to retire from
his practice. Sheldon became a Community
Liaison for Interac Community organization,
creating exciting programs for seniors and
conducting fundraising activities including an
annual auction. With a natural sense of hu-
mor, Shel took courses in stand up comedy
and performed at both Caroline's on Broad-

throughout the world, with his wife, he de-
veloped an enormous interest in art. He took
many courses and became a docent at
Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. After tak-
ing the 2 year Barnes Foundation Course, he
became enamored with the Barnes way of
looking and seeing. He was accepted into the
Barnes Docent Training Course and became a
docent. He was proud to say he took the fi-
nal tour at the Merion Barnes and the first
tour when the Barnes reopened its doors on
the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. He lectured
about the Art of Looking at Art onboard ships
and in a variety of community venues. While
a docent at the Barnes, he developed a pro-
gram to enable Medical Residents and other
medical professionals to use the Barnes
method of looking at art to help them open
their eyes and see more when looking at their
patients. Dr. David Gary Smith, Director of
Residency Training Programs at Abington
Hospital worked with Dr. Weintraub in pro-
moting the program. A fund to continue this
program in his name has been created. In
lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the
Barnes Foundation: The Dr. Sheldon Wein-
traub Fund. A memorial service will be held at
The Manor at Willow Valley, 211 Willow Val-
ley Square, Lancaster, PA on April 30, 2017.
