JOSEPH LEVINE and SONS
JEWISH EXPONENT
LANDAU Myron “Mike” Landau passed away peacefully on March 29,
2020 at the age of 80. While his last few years were difficult due
to illness, his life was marked by many pleasures, including his
loving family, true friendships, varied interests and a joy and
contentment with the world around him. He will be missed by
many, but never forgotten. Mike was born in Philadelphia to
Manfred and Ruth Landau on September 11, 1939. He grew up
in Wynnefield and Penn Valley where he graduated from Lower
Merion High School. He graduated from Penn State University in
1961. For over 40 years, Mike worked in the banking industry,
starting his career at PNB. In his spare time, he was an avid
gardener and could often be found tending to his beautiful rose
garden. He appreciated the little things in life and literally wanted
people to stop and smell the roses. He also loved to travel and
experience different cultures, which he did throughout many
countries around the world. In his spare time, he liked to play
golf with his friends and appreciate new wines and microbrews.
He was a big fan of Philadelphia sports and history and would re-
count our institutions from Municipal (JFK) Stadium to the Bul-
letin newspaper to Bond bread. Known for his ability to connect
with people and be a great listener, Mike remembered the details
of people’s lives and their families. When he saw the person
again, he would recount their stories and ask about their family
by name. He was kind and supportive and always lifted people up
with words of encouragement and kindness. He was a good
friend and a wonderful father who loved his family above all else.
Even in his ailing years, his spirit lifted up his family, as cap-
tured in a recent Inquirer article. Mike was a loving father of
Richard Landau (Kate Jacoby), Ruthellen “Rue” Landau (Kerry
Smith), and Suzanne Landau (Robert Auritt); devoted husband of
Dorothy “Dotsy” Landau (nee Witz); cherished grandfather of
Ethan, Zara, Eli, and Rio; and loving brother of Ellis Landau
(Yvette Landau). He is further survived by nieces and nephews,
other relatives and friends. Although he struggled in his later
years with Corticobasal Syndrome, a rare neurological disease,
he handled his illness with dignity and continued to be a champi-
on for his children and grandchildren until the end.
