DEATH NOTICES
AXELROD Rubin B. Axelrod, age 96, passed away on
March 6, 2019. He was a life-long resident of
Philadelphia. Mr. Axelrod was a world travel-
er, a retired government employee, and more
recently, a dedicated volunteer at Magee Re-
habilitation Hospital. He leaves behind a
daughter, Lynda Boardman (Steven); sister,
Bella Magerman; niece, Barbara Magerman;
nephew, Dr. Mark Magerman; and a large
loving family of grandchildren, great-grand-
children, and a new great-great-grandchild.

Magee Rehabilitation Hospital.

BONN Theodore Hertz Bonn, born in Philadelphia
PA May 27, 1923, passed away April 11,
2019 in Carlsbad, CA. He was the husband of
Edith Sindell Bonn (1924-2007) and son of
Norman Eugene Bonn and Matilda (Cohen)
Bonn of Philadelphia. Ted had a long and re-
warding career as a computer scientist, and
lifelong passions for photography, tennis,
travel, and chocolate. His family was a great
source of pride, love, and inspiration. He was
drawn to the sea and enjoyed his later years
in Sarasota FL, Carlsbad CA, and Falmouth
MA, where he helped to establish the Fal-
mouth Jewish Congregation. He will be
missed by his family, Suzanne Wadoski and
her husband Ken, Miriam Bonn, Matthew
Bonn and his wife Quinn Cramer; grandchil-
dren Andrew Wadoski and his wife Shaila
Mehra, Sarah Caruso and her husband Milo,
Matthew Bonn, Amanda Bonn and her hus-
band Gautam Sood, Susannah Bonn and her
husband Nick Giannecchini, and Lilach Man-
heim and her partner Eric Laurio; four great
grandchildren, his brother, Leonard and his
wife Clare, niece Linda Borenstein, nephew
Steve, and many dear friends. Ted graduated
from the University of Pennsylvania
(B.S.1943 and M.S. 1947, both in Electrical
Engineering). A pioneer in electronic com-
puters, he worked with the ENIAC, the first
electronic general-purpose computer as a
graduate student. He continued his career at
Eckert Mauchley Computer Corporation and
participated in the development of UNIVAC 1.
He then developed sonar components for the
United States Naval Air Development Center,
Johnsville, PA; was Chief Engineer, Research
and Peripheral Development, UNIVAC, Blue
Bell, PA; Director of Applied Research and
Standards, Honeywell Information Systems,
Waltham,MA; Director, Computer Research
Laboratory, Sperry Research Center, Sud-
bury, MA; and Manager, Command, Control,
Communications & Intelligence Systems,
Sperry Corporation, Waltham, MA. Ted held
more than 45 patents in the areas of com-
puter storage and peripherals. He was a Fel-
low of the Institute of Electrical and Electron-
ics Engineers (IEEE), serving as Vice Chair-
man, Computer Society; Vice President, Pub-
lications; member of the Board of Directors;
and was recognized with the Richard E. Mer-
win Computer Society Award in 1986. Me-
morial services will be held at a later date in
Falmouth, MA. Contributions may be made in
Ted's memory to The 300 Committee Land
Trust in Falmouth MA, which acquires and
preserves the green spaces he loved to walk
and photograph; to Quail Gardens, now San
Diego Botanic Garden; or to the Falmouth
Jewish Congregation.

Morton Chavenson, formerly of Elkins Park,
PA, age 92, on March 25, 2019. Beloved hus-
band of 62 years of the late Eleanor (nee Pol-
lack). Devoted father of Maris Chavenson
(Martin Raffel), Paul Chavenson (Lisa), and
Val Chavenson. Dear brother of Rabbi Le-
onard Zucker (Marilyn) and Esther Chaven-
son. Loving Zayda of Alanna Raffel, Amanda
Chavenson Sciandra (Sal), Josh Raffel
(Nicole), Jason Chavenson, Jackson, Suki,
Spica, Barkley and Luna. He was prede-
ceased by his brothers Hyman, Samuel, and
Abraham Chavenson, and Jack Zucker. A nat-
ive of Strawberry Mansion, Mort was city-
wide table tennis champion in 1944. After be-
ing a World War II Navy veteran, he attended
Philadelphia College of Art and then worked
as a graphic artist at WCAU-TV for 42 years.
He also created caricatures, logos, and
designs for a variety of organizations. He was
a mentor and instructor for young aspiring
artists at Philadelphia area schools. He lec-
tured extensively about handwriting analysis
and political cartoons, among others, as a
member of REAP and on cruise ships. A mu-
sician and composer, he also was a member
of the Beth Sholom Adult Chorale for 33
years. Funeral services were held on Wed-
nesday, March 27 at 1 PM at GOLDSTEINS'
ROSENBERG'S RAPHAEL-SACKS, Phil-
adelphia, PA Interment at Roosevelt Memori-
